Lucas
The next day"Lucas?" Emily whispered through the microphone. "I think I found that saber tooth tiger." I remembered when that same impossibly alive statue crept towards me. Luckily the new upgrades in her suit could send me her vitals. But it seemed like she was running out of energy fast. Whoever was doing this had first chased her around the museum with a caveman and an empty suit of armor. Right now they were probably stealing anything they wanted.
"Just get out of there, you don't have the energy to stop them." I said through the ear piece. She agreed and ran back at a much slower pace than usual. With a flash of light she was leaning against the table next to me.
"There must be someone controlling all of the statues. A metahuman who can bring things to life." She suggested, catching her breath. I spun in my chair as I thought. "But why go to the same museum?"
"Gotta be something specific there he wants, and he couldn't get it last time." I said chewing on the end of a pen. Agreeing with the claim, she nodded. "Now what?"
"Just wait until he shows up again, I guess." She hopped up onto the table. "Wanna hang out for a little bit?" I was hoping she would ask, even if we just sat there and talked. Any time with her would be perfect.
"Sure, do you want something to change-" She ran upstairs to my room before I could finish the sentence. She was back before I had finished the word. "-into?"
"I'm good." She smiled at the shocked look I gave her. Have I ever mentioned how much I love it when she wears my clothes? Somehow she made my baggy shirt and old sweatpants look beautiful. "What do you want to do?"
I tried to speak but she pulled her hair out of her ponytail, letting it hang loose. Sometimes I think she's knows all of my weaknesses and uses them all at once. Anyway, I just shrugged, hoping she didn't notice me being flustered.
"I don't want to go to school tomorrow," She complained.
"It'll be Valentine's Day though so that's good." I watched as her faced scrunched up in response.
"It's dumb. The worst holiday." My heart sunk. Any chance of doing anything with her was gone. "I've never had a good Valentine's Day."
"You are the last person I would guess to hate Valentine's Day." I said confused.
"I've never liked it. Never will." She shrugged. The look on her face told me that she wasn't kidding. "I should probably go home now. Lots of homework to do. Bye." She ran off without another word.
Emily
Truth is, I don't hate Valentine's Day. I've just sort of dreaded it. Past years have been full of rejection and embarrassment. For example, last year this really annoying guy filled my locker with flowers. Sound nice, right? Well I don't use my locker and just carry around my bag, so soon enough the hallway smelled like rotting flowers. Both of us got detention for three weeks cleaning gum off of every desk in the school. That same type of bad luck hit me every year, and this year I feared something would happen again. So if I just pretended to hate it, the day would pass without question.
The next morning I woke up, got ready, and ran to school. I waited by the tree for Lucas. His usual smile was on his face and joined me to walk to class. We watched as people around us exchanged chocolates and flowers. I admit, if Lucas had brought me any of those I would have fallen head over heels. Just the gesture would make me melt. He walked me to class before going to his own.
