The beeping seemed to go on for hours before I realized it was real. I sat up, confused, trying to find the origin of the sound. It was dark and my glasses were off so looking around aimlessly wasn't helping. Lucas tossed in his sleep, starting to hear the noise as well. Soon enough, I realized it was coming from our phones on the nightstand. I put my glasses on and squinted at the alert on my phone.
It read: A Metahuman has been spotted within a mile of your current location, stay indoors until further updates are released. Report any activity to the city police.

I groaned. The CCPD started alerting the city whenever there was a metahuman the same way they send out amber alerts. I understand that it keeps the citizens a little bit safer but, it was 3 AM. And this was the third night it's happened this week. Finally Lucas was awake and sat up. I turned to him and frowned.

"I better go see if they need any help." I said, wanting to go back to sleep. He laughed a little.

"It's probably just a false alarm like the other nights." He laid back down, making me consider staying. But I knew if I didn't go somebody would get hurt. Lucas knew I felt like I had to go. "Be safe." He said running his hand through his hair. I nodded and leaned down to kiss him.

"I'll be back soon." With a flash of light I changed into my suit and ran off into the night. The alert didn't come with a specific place of where the meta was so I ran down street after street looking for any sign of trouble. I didn't see or hear police so I assumed I would beat them there. However, nothing seemed out of the ordinary. I hoped I wouldn't find anything and I could go back to my warm bed. But that's when I noticed patches of ice leading to the doors of Mercury Labs.

I pulled on the door, the lock was frozen and then busted off. After going invisible, I walked inside and looked around. It was dark and seemed empty. There was noise coming from a lab down a hallway. I snuck to the door which read: Metahuman Research Lab. The lock was busted again. I peeked inside and watched as someone, who I assumed to be the meta with ice powers, looked for something on the shelves of experiments. Quietly, I walked in and looked at all of the experiments. Instead of focusing on the real target, I noticed a shelf that was labeled Spectra. Bottles called Invisibility trials 1,2, and 3 were the first ones I noticed. It seemed like they were trying to create serums to recreate my powers. However, they were all labeled unsuccessful.

I heard a crash from another shelf where the metahuman was. A bottle fell to the ground and shattered. She angrily kicked the shelf down, causing all the experiments to break. I reappeared and finally she saw me. Her arms shot out and ice flew towards me. Dodging to the side, the icicles whizzed past my head and shattered as they hit the wall. I went invisible and ran behind her. Before she could react, I shot my light at her back, causing her to fall to her knees. The warmth of my powers weakened her and soon enough, she passed out. I threw her over my shoulder and ran to the CCPD so they could take care of her.

Exhausted from all that work, I ran back home to go to sleep. Once I was back in my room, I sat on the edge of my bed. Lucas was asleep so I unzipped my suit and began changing back into my pajamas. I slipped my shirt on and climbed back in bed. Lucas slowly opened his eyes and smiled. He pulled me close to his chest.

"What happened?" He asked sounding half asleep, his breath hot on my forehead.

"Ice, Mercury Labs, I'm tired I'll tell you tomorrow." I kissed his cheek before snuggling into him and falling asleep in the warmth of his arms.
