Lucas

It was Friday night, I was still stuck in Emily's body. It really wasn't that bad. I did enjoy the warm feeling I got at her house. Unlike at my house, I was never alone. I imagined Emily sitting around in silence as Ainsley was probably asleep. If there was one thing I missed the most, it was probably Ainsley. Sure, I missed my parents but they go on work trips every once in a while. However, I realized I liked having a sibling that sole purpose wasn't to annoy me. Especially when Maddy came barging into my room while I was trying to finish forensics homework. Actually, since I had no idea how to do it I was basically just googling answers. Well anyway, she came storming in with a girl behind her.

"Lu-Emily! The WiFi's not working, can you fix it?" She stumbled on my name and I realized she wasn't going to tell her friend about the situation. This surprised me as it seemed all Maddy wanted to do was bother me and that would've been a perfect way to make me mad. However I reluctantly agreed and we went to the family room.

I sat down on the ground behind the mess of cords. This would be pretty easy because it seemed like I was the Shaw's personal tech guy. If someone's phone was acting strange, they called me. Cable isn't working? No problem, Lucas will fix it. I inspected the modem and decided it had the easy fix of unplugging and plugging back in. So I did just that and jumped up.

"That's probably good." I clapped my hands together. "So, who's this?" I asked motioning towards the girl. She seemed confused as if I should know her.

"Oh uh remember Ivy, my friend?" Maddy laughed painfully and luckily her friend smiled. Now I had to remember, Ivy with the cool short hair. I hoped there wasn't anything else like this that Emily would know. Couldn't my mom just hurry up and be home so that this would all be fixed. My thoughts were interrupted by a knock at the door. Maddy didn't seem like she was coming to get it so I headed towards the door. After unlocking it I opened it to see a familiar face. I held back a groan. I was staring back at Cassidy.

"Uh Cassidy. What are you doing here?" I asked slowly. She lived a few floors up, but Emily had said they haven't spoken in a while. She took a deep breath.

"I just wanted to talk." Obviously she was nervous, she looked down at her feet and rolled from heel to toe. This would be great if she was really talking to Emily, but she little did she know she came at the worst possible time.

"This really isn't the greatest time," I tried to make an excuse. Her face dropped. She really felt bad about all of this. Oh yeah, I'll recap just in case you forgot: We were playing truth or dare, she was being pretty annoying to me and ended up making me tell Emily I liked her. Which ruined any chance I had whatsoever. Emily was mad she was being that immature and hadn't talked to her for about two weeks. Remember now? Good.

"Emily please. I've missed you. A lot. And my parents..." Her voice faded off as if I should know what she's talking about.

"Seriously, this is the worst possible time you could've come." I repeated. She looked down sadly and nodded once before starting to turn around. "Wait. I have a little bit of explaining to do. Just come in." Cassidy turned around quickly and quietly followed me into Emily's room. She sat on the bed and I closed the door.

"Cassidy, I'm Lucas." I said slowly. She looked at me like I had grown a third eye. Then, she rolled her eyes and stood up.

"Wow, I just came over here to try and make things right but you're going to be an ass to me about it." I shook my head rapidly.

"No. I'm serious. Emily and I switched bodies." I exclaimed stopping her from leaving. She gritted her teeth probably trying not to use her strongest language. "Wait! I'll call her. You have to believe me." Cassidy sat back down as I pulled out my phone and FaceTimed Emily. She answered and I saw she was sitting in the family room watching TV. I saw Ainsley's head laying on her lap.

"Lucas! Your sister is so cute!" She whisper yelled showing me more of sleeping Ainsley. My heart ached, I wished I was there with my sister.

"Emily?" Cassidy said from next to me. Emily's face dropped and she took my phone from my hand. "Did you two really switch bodies?" Emily slowly nodded. "Can you give us some space?" Cassidy asked still holding my phone. I nodded and left the bedroom. As I stepped out, the tension melted away almost immediately.

I sat down on a chair at the dinner table. All of this made me want to have a brick thrown at my head. Multiple times, preferably.

At least Emily's Mom wasn't home much because of work. Apparently she could sniff out lies like a blood hound. There was also a slight chance that she scared me. Actually, I was scared of Maddy, Emily, and their mom. All in their own ways. Maddy was scary because her dad who raised her was a criminal and was a metahuman, Emily because she could blind me, and give me the worst sunburn ever at once but also she's scarier than any meta when she's mad. But Mrs. Shaw. Seriously. Maybe it's because they don't have a Dad to terrify me so she does it instead. Or maybe it's the fact that she's a badass cop who's also a single mom of two daughters-one of which she didn't think she'd ever see again- but somehow still leaves in time to interrogate her daughter's best friend who openly has a crush on her. See why I might get a little scared? One second she'll be laughing with Emily and then questioning me about my intentions with her daughter. Which, by the way, doesn't make sense since we're not together or anything. Just stuck in the friend zone.

My brain was brought back to reality as I heard laughing coming from Emily's room. I stood up and walked quickly to the door before slowly opening it. Cassidy sat on the edge of the bed laughing loudly, rocking back and forth. She tried to catch her breath as she saw me.

"So I'm guessing this is going well?" I asked trying not to show my slight annoyance. They had talked for a few minutes and suddenly everything was fine. Cassidy looked up at me smiling bright. I tried smiling back at the two of them. "We're just going to start over and pretend it never happened." She stood up and handed me my phone before continuing, "Thanks, I owe you." I muttered a goodbye as she left the room. After I heard the front door close I looked at Emily. Before I could share my opinion of the situation she spoke.

"I know. It's going to to be kinda hard. But I hope we can start over too. Go back to being best friends without any of the awkwardness." I felt like someone squeezed my heart as she said best friends. Not even friend zoned, worse, best friends zoned. I had to admit though, things had been pretty awkward since then. My crush was revealed, she got a boyfriend, he dumped her, and got back with her friend all in like two weeks. Maybe forgetting pretty much anything that happened from Christmas to February was a good idea. I smiled while hoping it looked genuine and laid on the bed.

"So who's Maddy's friend Ivy?" I asked wanting to change the subject.

"The first friend she made here. It's funny because they are complete opposites. She's quiet, shy, nice, polite, not annoying and basically everything Maddy isn't." She smiled and somehow smiled her signature smile even in my body. Yes, it felt a little weird. Looking at myself and still getting the same butterfly feeling in my stomach. It kinda grossed me out but if I just focused on her shining smile I could almost forget it was my own face.

"Maybe she can be a good influence on her." I laughed. I doubted anyone could soften Maddy's abrasive exterior. Emily laughed along with me. I felt a blast of air as the door swung open.

"There's a robbery downtown." She said shutting the door behind her. "Possibly metahuman." Emily groaned and received a weird look from her sister. She must've remembered Emily didn't know her secret and I did. "Uh- just wanted to make sure you didn't leave the house and possibly get killed or something." With a short awkward laugh she ran out of the room. I made sure the door was closed and she was out of earshot.

"Um how are we supposed to stop this meta if you don't have your powers?" I asked urgently. "Wait, does that mean I have your powers?" My worry immediately turned into excitement. I stuck my hand out in front of me and wait for it to light up. I frowned. "Why isn't it working?"

"You probably broke my powers." She rolled her eyes. "Or maybe my powers aren't as easy to use as you think."

"I've got to do something." An idea popped into my head as I stood up. "I'm going." From the last look I saw on Emily's face, I could tell she thought I was an idiot. Yeah, yeah I know. She was right.

Sorry it's short :)
