My toes wiggled around, feeling familiar soft plaid sheets. Sun shines through the window, it was morning. I turned to my other side but immediately sat up as pain shot to the side of my abdomen. Holding my breath, I lifted up the side of my shirt. There was a huge black splotch that went as far as half way down my thigh and as high as my rib. It hurt to move but it was also numb to the touch. Mrs. Marshall walked passed the door but saw me and yelled for Lucas before hurrying in.

"We decided to wait until you woke up to do any tests. I think it's probably second or third degree frost bite, but I'm not sure." Lucas walked in behind her and smiled weakly at me. "Can you walk?" I held my breath and swung my leg over the side of the bed. Black splotches that were darker than bruises covered my legs. Some were bandaged as if they had been open wounds, cut by her icicles.

"Wait no, I've got you." Lucas said as I began trying to stand. I sat back down. He carefully picked me up, making sure he didn't touch my wounds. I held my frostbit fingers by my chest instead of around his neck. He carried me to the lab, setting me down on the table. Mrs. Marshall went into doctor mode and began inspecting my wounds with different instruments.

She decided it was third degree frost bite but nothing she's ever seen.

"Usually frost bite isn't as splotchy but because she hit you directly, you were frozen immediately as it came into contact. So the effect is more extreme and will be hard to heal." The doctor part of her showed through as she explained. "Luke, go get the solar lamp. Hopefully that'll help you heal faster." Once Lucas left, Mrs. Marshall lowered her voice.

"So how did dinner go?" She smiled excitedly. I huffed thinking about the failed date.

"Well let's see, painfully awkward and we didn't even get to eat because of the metahuman." I answered with annoyance. She looked at me as if she didn't understand.

"Awkward? Sometimes it looks like you two have known each other for years." I nodded as she spoke.

"We didn't know what to talk about," I explained. "I even said that we wouldn't talk about metahumans or anything like that. Only normal stuff so that I didn't stress out about it." Mrs. Marshall smiled knowingly at me. "I mean I love him and stuff but- What?"

"You two became friends because of your powers, you've gotten closer because of metahumans." That was all true, but that was the hectic, dangerous part of my life that only brought problems. She must've saw me doubting her reasoning because she placed her hand on my arm. "Ignoring that part of you won't make your relationship normal, you two are a team. And normal's boring anyway, right?" Smiling at the amazing woman in front of me, I nodded. Almost immediately Lucas came down the stairs, as if he was listening.

"Uh Lucas, how much of that were you listening to?" By the red color of his face, I knew the answer.

"None...?" He said almost as a question. I raised my eyebrows as he set up the big light.

"Right." He flipped the switch and immediately I began to feel better. The light warmed my entire body. Usually any wounds would heal in a minute or two but the frost bite was stubborn. I had a feeling I'd be laying there for a while.

Lucas kept me company by staying downstairs on the computer. I wasn't sure what he was doing but it beat being alone. I had been laying there for quite sometime before deciding to break the silence.
