"Qui gon?!" asked a stunned Obi wan.

"Hello, Obi wan, I've been expecting you. It's good to see you, old friend. You look well," said Qui gon.

"You look well also," was the first thing Obi wan thought to say.

"I'm glad you chose to work here," said Qui gon, "it gives me a chance to catch up with you. I'm also your boss, so it will be just like old times, except minus the Sith lords!" joked Qui gon.

"Qui gon, do you know about what is happening in the galaxy right now?" asked Obi wan tentatively.

"We get updates, but the technology we work on should improve our knowledge. I know about the Galactic Empire, and Vader and Palpatine. The one thing I don't know is: who is Darth Vader? No one knows!" replied Qui gon.

"I know, and someone else does too, but they won't tell. Qui gon, Darth Vader is Anakin. He is the one who sent me here," said Obi wan, very quietly.

Qui gon sat down and gestured towards the other chair. "Tell me everything."

So Obi wan did. He told Qui gon about training Anakin, who had so much potential, about Anakin's friendship and later marriage with Padme, about Anakin's friendship with Palpatine, about Anakin's mother's death and Anakin's rage and pain, Anakin's slaughter of the younglings, the duel between Anakin and Obi wan on Mustafar, Anakin becoming more machine than man, Padme's death at childbirth, how Obi wan had watched over Luke, and Bail over Leia, the destruction of Alderaan, and lastly the duel between Obi wan and Vader on the Death Star, culminating with Obi wan's journey to the Valley of the Force.

Qui gon was silent for a long time, but when he finally spoke, he said "I never should have asked you to train him. This is all my fault. I just ended up hurting the people I care about."

"Qui gon, I don't blame you, this is NOT your fault. This was all a grand scheme orchestrated by Palpatine. We were just roadblocks and Pawns. Anakin is the Chosen One, I believe he may still come through. I know him. The prophecy says that when all is at it's worst, the Chosen One will bring balance to the Force," said Obi wan, with more confidence than he felt.

"You're right, Obi wan, so let me tell you about your new job!" said Qui gon, much cheered, "we work on technology to allow us to communicate with the living. Even though we were trained to communicate with them, it is exhausting, and contact is so short, it is worthless!"

So after the first few days of settling into the job (which was easy becsause he had worked with Qui Gon in the past), Obi wan began working hard. He had an idea, but needed to test it. He did calculations, and observed Qui gon's notes and technology. He continued to work hard, and make progress.

Obi wan came to work everyday, except weekends, and worked on his idea. One month in, he had a prototype.
