Satine came to the Med Center for her daily visit with Obi wan. He had made improvement yesterday-he had gotten out of the bed and walked. She stopped outside the door of his room. Something felt wrong. Then she realized: there was no sound. No quiet beeping, none of the monitors, nothing.
She rushed into the room and stopped dead in her tracks. The machines were all flatlined and Obi wan had a burned hole in his chest and he looked transparent. She must have screamed because a nurse came running. She called other nurses and Master Vokara Chei and they worked feverishly. Satine stood there, watching. They tried CPR and many other Force related things she didn't understand. Finally they retreated. Vokara Chei turned to her. "I'm so sorry, Satine, but he's gone. I'll leave you to say your goodbyes." She gently clasped Satine's shoulder than left with the nurses.
Satine ran to Obi wan and wept. He couldn't be gone, not now, not when she had had hope. Everyone knew that you couldn't die in the Valley! They were already dead! It was supposed to be impossible! She put her head down on his chest and cried. then she heard something, so quiet it couldn't be heard unless on top of it, the slight beating of his heart. He wasn't dead quite yet! She still had a chance! She looked at his face, he looked peaceful. She slapped him. Nothing. She shook him by the shoulders. Nothing. She tried everything she could think of with no reaction. Finally, she pressed her ear to his heart and felt it slowing down, the beats coming more slowly every time.
"Obi wan, please, I can't lose you! Not again. Not again. I need you. I always have. I always will." She used the same words she had that final time on Mandalore. She wept, defeated. He had lost his will to live. This was to much for even the great Obi wan Kenobi to overcome. He was gone. She was alone.
Anakin and Ahsoka found her that way. They walked in, unaware of what had happened. Anakin froze when he entered. Then he rushed inside to Obi wan's side. Ahsoka followed close behind. Anakin shook his mentor's shoulders calling his name and when he got no response he stumbled back and would have fallen had Ahsoka not caught him. He leaned against her, tears in both their eyes.
Obi wan Kenobi was gone.
