When Padme saw the explosion of Light she got worried. She had that feeling in her gut that told her something was very wrong. She sealed her helmet and stepped outside. Nothing happened to her so she kept walking briskly until she reached the clearing that had come to investigate. She found Anakin and Obi wan slumped on the ground, unmoving. Instinctively she rushed over to Anakin to see if he was hurt. He seemed fine just unconscious. Maybe he was stunned by the blast?
She shook him gently and his eyes opened slowly. He looked up at her, gaze unfocused. He shook his head gently and sat up slowly. She helped. He looked at her and unsealed his helmet. She moved her hand to stop him but he gently pushed it down. When he removed the helmet he said "Obi wan cleared this area. It's safe." Then his eyes widened and he looked around for his friend. He tried to stand and fell. Padme removed her helmet and looked at him concerned. She couldn't help it. She had tried to stay angry at him, she really had, but it was just to hard. She had been stopping up her feeling towards him since even before he had arrived, never expecting a chance to reconcile with him. Now it all flowed out and she rushed towards Anakin to help him as he always had to help her. "Are you okay?" She asked.
Anakin nodded. "I'm drained." Then he frowned. "I don't really remember..." then his eyes widened and he looked around yet again, confused. "Sidious. Where'd he go?"
Padme stiffened. The man who had turned Anakin against her had been here? He was no longer. She scanned the area and realized that it was lush like always. All other places had become dry and barren but this was normal and alive except for one starburst of withered grass. She pointed. Anakin's eyes focused on the area and he looked at Obi wan again with more respect.
He knelt next to his former mentor and checked him over. He looked up at Padme. "He's breathing but his pulse is very weak. He's not responding. We need to get him to a med center." She nodded.
Together they moved him to the speeder and laid him in the back seat. Anakin drove even faster than he had on the way there making Padme want to smile. This was the Anakin she remembered. The one who would do anything for the ones he cared for. She knew what Obi wan meant to him. Then she frowned. She knew what he meant to him. He'd better be okay. She remembered what had happened the last time Anakin thought that Obi wan was dead: he had taken a dark turn and only when he discovered Obi wan was unharmed did he relax. It had been a terrifying sight.
Anakin drove faster still, sensing something she could not. All people in the Valley had minimal powers but nothing compared to a Jedi. They had resealed their helmets and checked Obi wan's before getting in the speeder and Padme felt claustrophobic in the tight suit. It fit properly but she was unaccustomed to it. Anakin seemed unbothered. She had to remind herself that he had spent years in a suit more cumbersome that this and she shouldn't complain. It wasn't a pleasant thought.
Anakin tensed. "What is it?" She asked over the suit com. He looked at her. "I'm having trouble sensing Obi wan. It's like he's flickering out. Fading. I'm worried about him." Padme nodded, more concerned than ever. Anakin told her to call Satine and tell her to meet them at the med center. She complied. Satine sounded worried over the com and said she would come over as soon as possible.
They pulled into the med center parking area and got out quickly. They carried Obi wan inside and noticed the number of people inside was more than the capacity. There were patients everywhere. On chairs and tables and even on the floor.
They rushed up to the stressed looking receptionist who's as wearing a breathmask. They explained what they knew of what had happened and the receptionist whispered "Follow me." They did so and entered the last available room. A nurse came quickly top assist and hooked Obi wan up to life support. She shooed Anakin and Padme away so they retreated to the far wall. Padme sent Satine a message about what room they were in. Anakin shifted uncomfortably, worry plainly seen in his eyes. He stiffened just before the life support machines flatlined. Despite the nurse's protests he rushed to his friend's bedside and put a hand to his shoulder. Obi wan's suit had been replaced with a mask and his skin felt cold and lifeless. Could someone die again?
Anakin focused all his energy on the Light Side and pushed it into Obi wan. He turned to the Nurse and demanded "Is master Vokara Chei here?"
"Yes, but-"
"Get her. Now!"
The nurse rushed away.
Anakin continued pouring his residual drained reserves of energy into his friend, his vision going black around the edges until slowly, almost grudgingly, the life support came back online. Anakin withdrew his hand and the machine instantly flatlined again. He tried again, not holding back any energy that could save his friend. He was almost unaware of Satine and Master Vokara Chei coming in until she pushed him gently away. He stumbled back in a daze. Padme pushed him down into a chair and everything went black.
