Tennis Player One Shots

No matter what ~ Rafael Nadal

A look of horror crossed Y/N's face as she watched her boyfriend, Rafael, getting completely destroyed in the quarterfinals of the US Open.

He was playing against Andy Murray and somehow couldn't find any way to get the ball past him without it being called 'out'.

Soon enough, Andy had a match point; the score was 5-1 after Rafa had already lost the first two sets 6-3 and 6-4.

Y/N held her breath in, but Andy's ball landed directly in the right corner with a lot of speed, leaving the Spaniard no chance to get it.

"Game, Set, Match, Murray," She heard being called out, making her sigh in frustration.

It wasn't like she was disappointed in her boyfriend or anything, she just knew that he would be disappointed in himself.

Y/N quickly made her way down to where she saw Rafa sitting on a chair with his head in his hands.

"Hey, Rafa," She said before walking towards him and carefully placing a hand on his shoulders.

"Don't be disappointed," She mumbled, trying her best to cheer him up, "Everyone has a bad day once in a while."

"I'm sorry," Rafael just replied, making his girlfriend raise her eyebrows.

"You don't habe anything to be sorry for," She assured him, but he started shaking his head.

"You came all the way to the US to support me and I can't even get to the semifinals," He stated as Y/N kneeled down beside him.

"It's alright, Rafa, really," She said, softly running a hand through his hair, "You know I love to watch you play and it was a great trip for me."

"But you believed in me and I disappointed you," He replied quietly, making Y/N sigh again.

"You could never disappoint me," She stated, smiling slightly as he finally looked up at her, "I'm incredibly proud of you and that won't change just because you loose a few matches."

"Thank you," Rafa answered before pressing a kiss to her cheek.

"There's nothing to thank me for," Y/N said, blushing a little as he smiled down at her.

"Yes, there is; you're always there to support me, cheer me up after bad matches and you always believe in me," He explained, placing a hand on her cheek, "I love you."

The two smiled at each other for a while before leaning in and sharing a soft kiss.

"Well, I'm sure you will win the US Open next year," Y/N said, making her boyfriend chuckle.

"How can you always be so optimistic?" The tennis player questioned, while she shrugged her shoulders.

"I don't know," She answered as he took her hand, "but I know that you can do it."

"You're incredible," The Spaniard replied, looking down at his girlfriend lovingly.

"I know," Y/N stated sarcastically after the both of them stood up again.

"That's why I love you so much," Rafa added, wrapping his arms around his girlfriend's waist before pulling her closer.

"And I love you, too, Rafa, no matter what," She said, the smile never leaving both of their lips as they walked away hand in hand.
