"Y/N, is that you?" The young woman heard somebody ask and immediately tried to wipe away the tears that were streaming down her cheeks.
"Why do you care?" She asked, quickly glancing to the side to see her former best friend, Roger, standing only a few steps beside her, an unreadable expression on his face.
Shrugging his shoulders, the Swish tennis player sat down beside her, while she put her had in her hands, forcing herself to stop crying, but that wasn't really working anyway.
"We used to be friends, you know," He replied, running a hand through his dark hair, nervousness taking over him as she glared at him for a brief moment before looking back at the ground.
"But we aren't anymore," She stated bitterly, wanting nothing more than to be alone in that moment, but somehow, he had no intentions to leave.
"I guess you're so sad because you lost in the first round," He started, thinking back to all of her matches he had watched on TV, "again."
Y/N couldn't help, but feel her heart breaking even more as she heard those words coming out of his mouth.
It hurt her to know that he was right; after all the Grand Slams and trophies she had won in the past, she had nearly lost all of her first round matches in the last two years, following a serious injury that she somehow, didn't seem to be able to recover from, and she was falling behind in the ranking even more every day.
She was trying so hard to stay strong, but with the recent match result and him sitting next to her, making all of her memories come to life again, it was impossible.
"Hey, stop crying," Roger mumbled, while she started sobbing again and he awkwardly patted her back, but she shrugged his hand off.
"Did you forget that we hate each other?" She asked, which made his eyes go wide.
"I could never hate you," He said quietly, causing her to frown, but he just shrugged his shoulders, "We used to be best friends."
"Before you forgot about me as soon as you started dating her," Y/N answered, the words from all those years ago still replaying in her head.
"I don't have time for you anymore, Y/N. There are more important things for me now."
It was silent between the two of them for a while, while they were both sorting out their own thoughts, neither of them wanting to say something wrong and both of the secretly wishing that things would go back to how they were when they were still children, practicing together to become tennis stars.
"I'm sorry," Roger suddenly said, which made her look up at him in shock; she never thought that she would hear this words from him.
"You don't need to be, we aren't friends anymore," She replied, slowly standing up from the bench because with each second she spent with him her pain and her sorrow only grew.
"How could we become like this?" She quietly questioned herself, taking the first few steps away from him and away from her past.
He, however, didn't want to let her go again and grabbed her wrist to stop her from leaving.
"Wait," He said, standing up so he could look directly into her sad y/e/c eyes, "I still want to say one thing: I'm sorry that I just left you behind, I never meant to hurt you so much."
"But you did," She answered, locking eyes with him for a moment before turning her attention back towards the ground, "and there's nothing you can do to make it right again."
Roger took a deep breath, slightly backing away from her because he could see how uncomfortable she felt around him.
"I just wanted you to know that I still care about you," The Swish tennis player stated, causing her to hold in her breath, "like I always did. I've watched nearly all of your matches and when you were in the hospital I thought about visiting you every day, but I guess I was just too scared."
"Too scared?" Y/N asked, finally looking up at him again, her heart picking up it's speed as she realized what he had said.
"Scared that my feeling for you would return when I see you again," He admitted, his voice nearly breaking at the end, "but that was idiotic of me to think."
Her heart felt like it was falling into pieces all over again, but that feeling was soon replaced by the faster beating as she heard his next words.
"Because they were always there and they always will be, even though you hate me now," Roger finished, seeming even sadder as he was before, while he turned around, ready to leave her alone.
"Wait," This time it was Y/N stopping him from walking away, "You mean you had feelings for me when we were younger?"
A small smile broke out on his face as he heard those words. "I was in love with you, Y/N, and I still am today."
"Even after all those years?" She questioned, tears threatening to roll down her cheeks for the second time that day.
The Swish nodded, taking a step towards here. "Forver," He mumbled, leaning down to place his lips on top of hers in a soft kiss.
After they broke apart, it was silent for a moment before he decided to speak up again:"I'm sorry, I just had to do that, only one time."
She couldn't find the words to describe what she was feeling in that moment, but she knew one thing for sure; she didn't want him to go.
"Stay," She said, quickly grabbing his hand as he was about to leave.
Seeing tears forming in her eyes again, he couldn't help, but pull her into his chest, keeping her in his embrace.
"I won't leave," He assured here, softly stroking her cheek, a small smile visible on his lips, "I'll stay as long as you want me to."
"Forever," Y/N mumbled, not thinking about it twice as she leaned in to kiss him again.
