How brilliant is brilliance,
When seen through the window of the soul?
The house smelt rank when I got in, and immediately guessed it had something to do with Keira's 'surprise,' because the floors were clean, and the bathroom smelt faintly like bleach, so I knew it had nothing to do with poor hygiene.
Ash smiled brightly from the kitchen when she spotted me and waved. I returned her smile and went to joined her and Rae to see what they were concocting.
"Hey, how was work?" Rae asked, standing over the stove.
"Pretty good," I answered, stealing a piece of carrot off the board where Ash was peeling and chopping them. "What are you two making?"
"Poison," Rae teased, glancing at Ashley as she giggled and shook her head at me.
"Converting innocent souls to your dark ways," I pretended to glare at Rae, putting a protective arm around Ashley.
"Oh, please," Rae rolled her eyes, "She's a bad influence on me."
"What did I do?" Ash protested but Rae just laughed and turned back to the stove.
Edgy got home just as Rae was putting together lentil burgers for everyone, then he went and got in the shower while Caleb and Kee tidied up, kicking me and Ash out, telling us to wait in the shed for them.
"Should we be worried?" Ash asked me as I closed the door behind her.
"Nah," I replied grinning, but it seemed to do nothing to ease her nervousness. "Here."
I picked up a piece of smoky quartz from a glass bowl of different stones I had on the window sill among the zen frogs and handed it to her She held it in the palm of her hand and studied it, tilting her head to the side.
"What's this one?" She wondered, lifting her free hand to the piece of amethyst she was wearing. She hadn't taken it off, I'd noticed, since we'd retrieved it from the river.
"Smoky quartz," I explained. "It's supposed to elevate moods, and relieve negative emotions by transforming them into positive energies."
Whether or not the stones energies were working on her, or if it was just a good distraction, I couldn't tell, but, either way, it seemed to work, because she seemed a lot more calm compared to before, her nervousness completely gone.
