The water was no longer crashing down in the violent torrent that it had been just the other day, and had resumed it's mellow trickle. I could feel it soothing me already, the anxiety that had been pent up inside from the last few days ebbing and flowing from me, washed away with the cool embrace of the river.
I raised my hand to my amethyst stone, hoping it's healing powers might give me the strength I needed to break the news to Kyra, but, just thinking about it made my chest clench painfully. I undid the clasp, letting the soft velvet slide around my neck, and found a tiny crevice in the rocks, similar to the first one I'd put the crystal in, where the water only flowed gently, hardly a ripple to suggest a current strong enough to carry my amethyst away.
I needed to absorb as much of the energy from here as I could, I'd decided, and, this would more than likely be my last chance.
I went and sat on the edge of the large pool that Kyra had found, dipping my feet in, up to my knees.
"You coming in?" He wondered, flicking a few drops of water at me from his finger tips.
"In a minute," I answered him, splashing him back.
He came toward where I sat on the edge, crossing his arms over the tops of my legs, resting his chin there.
"You sure everything's alright, Ash?" He asked me gently, gazing up at me with concern. "You've been really quiet."
I smiled down at him, brushing the backs of my fingers down over his cheekbone to the stubble that had begun lining his jaw. He closed his eyes, letting me soothe him.
"I'm just enjoying this," I explained to him, once again missing the opportunity to tell him what was really on my mind. The longer I could drag it out, the better, though, it only seemed to make it harder.
"Come in the water with me," he suggested, taking my hands.
I smiled again and nodded, placing my hands on his shoulders, letting him pull me into the water. He laughed as I gasped, my body enveloped in a cool embrace.
"It's so cold," I complained.
"It's refreshing," he countered.
"Stop being so optimistic for one second," I teased. "It's bloody freezing."
"Alright. It's a little bit cold," he finally admitted.
