She was relieved that they had cleared up the mess she'd managed to make, but they were still back at square one.  The question remained.

"What happens now?"  She wondered, breaking the companionable silence that had fallen between them.

He had been hoping that she wouldn't bring it up, but he knew it had to be asked.  They both had friends, homes, jobs, lives, that would have to be sacrificed for one another.

"What do you want to happen?"  He asked her, not wanting her to feel like he was forcing her into anything.

"I want to freeze time, and not have to think about it, honestly," she answered, sighing.

"You could come home with me," he suggested, half joking, half serious, barely breathing as she hesitated.

"Kyra..."

"Or, I'll stay here, with you."  He took her face in both hands, forcing her to look at him, to see that he was serious. "I don't know.  Either way, I want us to be together."

She hesitated for the longest time, long enough that he was sure that she'd say no. She bit her lip and gazed up at him, wishing it was just as easy as that.  They both wondered if they could make it work, the realistic part of them saying 'probably not,' but, the more logical part asking 'why not?'

"I can't, Kyra," she told him, regret as visible in her voice as her eyes, "I've got my job, I've got my whole life here."

All the hope he'd been feeling died, right then and there. He wanted to argue, but she was right. He couldn't expect her to just uproot, and leave everything behind.

"At least, not right away," she added, after a moment's consideration. "I need to give notice at work, pack up everything-"

"I'll wait," he told her quickly, cutting her off before she changed her mind, "how long?"

"Three weeks?" She wondered and he nodded quickly.

"Yeah, that's fine." He waited for the regret, the change of heart, anything, but the relief in her expression reflected what he felt.

"Tomorrow," she told him, smiling. "I'll let them know tomorrow."

"Okay," he agreed, unable to hold back the shit eating grin spreading over his face, matching hers.

"Oh my god," she laughed, "I'm really doing this."

"If you want some time to think about it..."

He said it hesitantly, because thinking about it might mean changing her mind, figuring out if he was worth starting over for, but she shook her head.

"No," she insisted. "I made up my mind. I want to be with you."
