Rae found him on his bed, staring at the ceiling like he'd been doing for the past two hours, slowly coming down, remembering why he'd smoked up in the first place. He'd never felt so miserable in his life.
She asked if he was feeling ok. He'd shaken his head.
She pressed her hand to his forehead, feeling for a temperature, but he was fine. Then, she found the postcard where he'd dropped it on his bed, and felt her heart breaking for him as she read it.
She hugged him for a long time, wishing she could make it better for him, and finally managed to coax him to come inside, where he sat miserably on the couch with her and Caleb.
They tried their hardest to cheer him up, but nothing worked, so Rae hugged him again, crooning softly, reminding him that they all loved him, promising that it would be okay.
But it wouldn't. Not to him.
