There's nothing else in the world like nature walks when you're high. A herb given to us by mother nature to show us an appreciation of the natural world around us. It's as though nature is allowing us to see her divine beauty naturally, the reasons we need to protect and preserve it.
Ash and Kyra were appreciating, first hand, the divine beauty that the world had to offer, chasing tiny, laughing pixie children over rocks lining the river, following the woodland elves to their secret hiding places where humans weren't supposed to be.
They found the fae, last of all, and Kyra relaxed against the trunk of a tree, watching Ash dance with them, whirling and spinning, her wild, violet hair obscuring her smile, her laughter ringing out through the forest, as musical as the bird calls surrounding them.
He watched her, totally absorbed in her, wondering how, just like a great forest, something so beautiful could exist so quietly, why their paths had crossed. She was like no one he'd ever known, so shy, yet, so ready to explode with suppressed potential, and he wanted to help coax her out of the tiny cocoon the world had reduced her to, and find the incredible creature that was growing inside, letting it take flight.
Finally, exhausted, Ash collapsed next to Kyra while the fae continued their wild dance, moving gracefully to a melody so deep within the earth's vibrations that their human ears couldn't hear it.
The fae weren't just the fairest, or the most timid of all the woodland folk, but they were the wisest, also. Ash asked them if they knew the meaning of life.
They told her that it was this:
The meaning of life is living in the moment, enjoying the little, simple things, seeing them for big things, because it is the little things in life that matter and make us happy. The meaning of life is the smiles and the laughter we share, the kindness we show and the happiness we make one another feel.
The true meaning of life is to not only respect others, but to respect ourselves as the divine beings that we are, to see that we are beautiful and worthy of a place in this universe and to recognize our strength, as only the strongest of souls carry on in the physical, temporary form we called Me. That we must respect the Me and look after it and not abuse it.
Because, once the Me grows old and dies, the soul is left to wander, to be incarnated into another physical form, creating a new Me, one that begins to learn all it can in the short time before the cycle that we call Life and Death continues.
Ash decided that she'd think about it, then her and Kyra said farewell and picked their way back home once more.
