There was a knock on the door, and Kee opened it, leading the others all through, carrying a large, steaming wooden bowl in her hands. Ash glanced uncertainly at Kyra, who smiled reassuringly and took her hand. They all arranged themselves in a circle on the floor and passed the bowl around, sipping from it before passing it to the left again and again until the contents were all gone.
By about the third time around, Ash was feeling funny, and Kyra steadied the bowl for her as she sipped from it, before she passed it onto Rae.
The smoke from the incense was curling above their heads, swirling in a protective circle all around them, enclosing them in a hazy melody.
Or, was that the music she could see?
She couldn't tell where smoke ended and music started, where smell gave way to sound, where real time separated from where it slowed down.
Kyra watched her, concerned and content as she tried to make sense of her surroundings, but he knew he was just as muddled as she was. The only difference was that he had been here, in this place before. He knew what was going to happen to him already. This was all new to her, so he wanted to help her through it so that the experience was as enjoyable and relaxed as it could be, memorable for all the right reasons.
He found her hand, and wrapped his fingers around hers, and she gazed across at him and smiled happily, her eyes focused and intense, yet far away, at the same time. She reached her other hand to her amethyst again, and it was as though it's calming power seeped in a violet hue from the stone into her body.
This is what brilliance felt like.
