Backstory

Oh boy, how lovely, this is gonna be an interesting chapter.
Backstories really explain all your characters motives and lifestyle in the end, and can be really good and thought out. But it can also be a cliche pity party. Many Creepypasta backstories consist of abuse, death, bullying, neglect, and other dark things. The thing with this is, many tragic backstories are the same! There's no diversity among sad pasts. Abuse? I bet most OCs went insane and killed their parents or ran away. Bullying? Most OCs went insane and killed their bullies. Death of a loved one? Insanity. You get the point. Be logical and realistic. Nobody just kills their abusers and/or bullies. I'm picky about psychology, and will make a detailed chapter on it next. Abusers and bullies belittle, hurt, and emotionally destroy the ones they torment. Your poor little OC would kill themselves before working up the courage to talk back to their bullies if you say it's bad enough to make them go insane. That's how abuse works, it's belittling and not just something for pity and to drive your OC to unrealistic mental illness. Get your facts straight, and do research.

Here's Some Input on Common Backstory Elements

Bullied - This is actually OK, but no one realistically randomly starts getting bullied to insanity, because that's how it's usually used in crappy backstories. Give a motive and reason for the bullying and make it reasonable.

Abused - Not all abused people are abused for a reason, but still you should give some motive to it, if you decide to take this on. It makes people feel weak and useless against their abusers so don't just make them snap and kill them. It is a sensitive topic, and hardly anyone uses it well. Kudos to you if you have a good, abused OC. That sounds morbid...

Suicide - Ghosts and undead creatures need some sort of death, right? This is one. It is fine to use. Just don't go overboard and use it for pity. Suicide is a great step to take, so give a reason for it and give a realistic breaking point.

Killing parents/dead parents - Ok, if you're going to make your OC kill their parents or someone then again, explain why and don't just make it spontaneous or, "Just because". And if your OC's parents are already dead, why and how did they die? Explaaaaaiiiiiiiinnnnn.

Mental Disorders - I'm quite judgmental on this. I know poeple with mental disorders and am mentally ill myself so make it accurate. It is disrespectful to just throw a disorder in for pity or to make your character interesting. It isn't fun, and doesn't go away like THAT. Do research, for gods sake, before you give an OC a mental disorder. I will make a separate chapter detailing much much more on this, so I made this vague intentionally.
