Motives

Every killer should have a motive, rather than just deciding to become a murderer or serial killer. I've developed a liking for listing rather than adding everything into paragraphs, so here's a list of some killing motives.

1. Just snapping and/or going insane- This genuinely is used more than it should be, and has no real logic behind it. How can someone just, "snap"? I mean, I guess it can happen in real life but the way it's usually portrayed is not very believable AND it's lazy. If your OC has gone through enough sh*t to go insane, then please make it at least reasonable and detailed. No one realistically just snaps one day and decides to become a murderer. If you're going to take this route, don't be lazy. At least make it slowly progress throughout their life and make it logical.

2. Revenge- Revenge is a cool subject, but it's never usually portrayed super thrilling...ly...
Yeah it's really cool but not everyone pulls it off well. It's also sometimes slammed together with the randomly "snapping" and stuff. If your OC's motive for killing is revenge, then make it a bit realistic at least. Make it thrilling and not super edgy, and you've got a pretty good motive!

3. Searching/looking for someone- Oooh, an interesting motive. This can be mixed with the revenge reason too. It could be a family member looking for a friend or fellow family member, or even someone looking for someone who is now dead. Not much to say here, this is a pretty cool motive. 

4. For sh*ts and giggles (fun)- Walking on eggshells here, but it's still an ok reason. If it's not with a cliche, edgy, and overall crappy "insane" or "crazy" personality, this is alright. Some people can genuinely be overcome by their unexplained homocidal thoughts, or curiosity to kill someone. This is reasonable. 

5. Religious reasons- Ok, so...I literally couldn't think of any other motives while writing this and I asked my friend. This is what he said. Ok, ok, this could actually be a motive. I'm not too sure how to explain it but this is a creative possible motive!

6. Cult, gang, or club reasons- Self explanatory. Cults are demanding, and some may kill if they get in with the wrong people. Gangs are also sometimes very vicious. Remember though, it's very difficult to leave a cult, gang, or violent club. I don't know much about cults and clubs but I know a decent amount about gangs. They are not easy to leave so be wary of that. Clubs and cults are sometimes the same, or at least they could be.
