I ran upstairs as quickly as possible like Kale told me to and rushed into my homeroom. As soon as I get into the room, 32 pairs of eyes are on me, which is pretty awkward. After a moment of silence, everyone starts asking questions on what had happened, because apparently the news that a tragic accident in my family occured, spread very quickly. Mr. Frank, our English teacher, made everybody quiet down.
"Oh, Ms. Brooks! How may I help you?"
"I'm just here to pack my things and is it okay if after I am done packing that I quickly take Bethany Ramos and Alexandra Silva?"
"Of course Ms. Brooks, here is a hall pass for you three."
"Thank you, Mr. Frank," I said and I quickly went into the closet to get my violin and my backpack. I had an eerie feeling that I wouldn't come back for awhile. I came out of the closet and took Beth and Alex out into the hallway with me.
"Beth, Alex, I have a feeling you already know what happened, but a lot of not-obvious stuff happened too, so let me just let you know that I may not be back for some time. Text me whenever you can , or call me, whatever you want, just keep in contact with me." They both nodded and we had a little group hug before all of us said "I love you" at the same time. We let out a small laugh, as I gave them the hall pass and gave them a little wave as I slowly walked away. A tear shed down my already wet cheeks as I ran down the stairs.
"Great, that was quick sis," said Kale, and for some odd reason, it didn't feel strange that a guy I never met just called me his sister. It felt, kinda special.
"Umm thanks," I said with a smile as I waved to the office a quick good bye as everyone in there said stuff like, "Stay strong," or "Good luck sweetheart."
Kale led me to his car which by the way was actually a lot fancier than I expected it to be. It was a black Mercedez something, I dont study cars so I didn't know. I put my bag and my violin into the trunk as Kale rolled the windows down.
"I hope some fresh L.A summer air helps you a bit," he said with a smile as we got out of the school parking lot and into the highway.
"Thanks, I think it kind of does...." I said a few moments later.
"Look, M, I should tell you the rest of the things I must tell you. So here I go," he said and I responded with a small nod.
"Mom and Dad had to give you away to make Christina and Robby happy and make their lives shine again. I know it probably seems unfair but Mom and Dad really had no other choice, they were slowly running out of money because at the time, Mom and Dad weren't doing so well."
"What do you mean at the time? I'm guessing they have money now? So they want me back now?" I said with a bit of annoyance.
"M, Mom and Dad didn't want to give you away, they loved you a lot. And I mean a lot, but a few years later, Dad's computer engineering company really struck rich. They got an offer from the famous computer company SPACE FUTURE and it seriously helped Mom and Dad, and pretty much the whole family. Mom used some of that money and went back to school and became a Pediatrician. Dad is now the CEO of Space Future, making him a multi millionaire. Mom and Dad really wanted to bring you back into the family, but they couldn't . You belonged to Christina and Robby now until something tragic happened to them."
"My parents are millionaires?" I asked in shock, like complete shock.
"Pretty much," Kale said with a laugh. "And now that I told you the story of how you got seperated, time to tell you about our family. "
"Uhhh, yeah shoot."
"Well, the family doesn't have six children anymore really. More like ten, plus two that are grown up."
"Ummm, why do we have so many children in this family?"
"Well, to be honest, Mom and Dad grew to hate the fact that they were missing one of their children, so they had more children to make them feel complete again, which still didn't happen."
"Awww, that's actually really sweet."
"Yeah, it is. Mom and Dad always told Jackie, Mark, and me about it, but the younger ones don't really know about you. Well, they should now, because Mom and Dad are actually breaking the news to them right now....."
"Are you serious??"
All Kale did was nod his head and start talking again a few moments later.
"So, Jackie is 24 and has a boyfriend who is very close to this family, and his name is Brendon. In matter of fact, Brendon proposed to Jackie a few months ago, but Jackie said no, because she didn't want to get married without her WHOLE family there. She wanted her missing younger sister there with her."
"I feel like I caused so much trouble.... "
"Don't worry, it's not your fault that you became a part of Christina and Robby's family, it was Mom and Dad's decision. Anyway, haha moving forward. Mark is 21, two years older than me." HA, I was right! Kale is nineteen! I think I'm pretty good at guessing ages...
"Mark got a soccer scholarship at Stanford, and yeah he's that good. He has a girlfriend, Megan, who also, is very close to the family."
"Got it."
"You know I'm Kale, I told you that, and I'm nineteen. I graduated a few months ago and I'm taking a break from school right now to focus on soccer." He plays soccer too? "Yes, I play soccer too." He some how read my mind. "Then comes the famous triplets. You, Jacob, and Sarah. Jacob plays basketball a lot, and Sarah is a huge softball player. Jacob plays his guitar all the time, writing songs, and Sarah is always on her cello, practicing. "
"Oh, that's great, since I play the violin a lot too."
"Yeah, I have a feeling you guys are going to be really close. About 6 years after you guys were born, Mom and Dad had Stephanie, and two years later they had Stephen and Rose. Then another two years later they had Bryan and Brenda, So this family is really big. Stephanie is always focused on her ballet, Stephen is always drawing something or somewhere. Rose is always reading a book under her tree near our soccer field. It's like all the way at the end of our estates, so she's away from everybody and-"
"Did you just say we have a soccer field? Hold on, you just said estates..... wait I forgot we had a lot of money... sorry . Move on."
"It's fine," he said with a laugh. "Bryan and Brenda are both going to first grade and they are always practicing their karate. So yeah the whole family has something they are talented for or are always seen doing."
"Thats amazing."
"I know the family is pretty cool."
"No, well yes, but I mean that." I said pointing to these huge gates that were part of a closed property that seemed huge.
Kale just laughed and said, "Welcome home Mere. This is the Mathew Estates."
