She held her gun tight and had her index finger positioned on the trigger. She abandoned Malefia, her home, to start her almost impossible journey towards the Land of Dawn.
She currently stood in front of the giant oak tree that fell and obstructed the road that she was about to pass on. She positioned her Malefic gun, groped the trigger, pointed it to the tree and in a matter of seconds, it was nothing but a speck of dust on the misty ground.
She dusted her clothing and removed the ashes that settled on its surface.
She was to tread the road ahead of her when she saw, faintly, almost missing it, from the corner of her eye, a tiny aircraft hovering rapidly at a certain rock. It was a weird scenario for Layla.
What was that tiny aircraft doing? Was it spying on her? She went near the peculiar thing to get a detailed look if it.
It was triangular in form and it had two blue lights on each of its corner. She lifted her right arm and motioned to touch the thing but right before she made actual contact, it shot her palm.
It released consecutive fire pellets and Layla, ran as the little aircraft chased after her.
She thought she lost the hovering thing when she reached a certain distance but it reappeared just as she was about to head back to her destination. This time, the aircraft didn't harm her. It poked her by the shoulder, as if it's telling her something.
"What is this little, weird, flying thing up to?" she managed to whisper to herself.
As if it has a mind of its own, the tiny aircraft flew behind Layla and used its nozzle to push her forward, as if it was leading the way to some place.
Layla, confused as ever, turned its back and fought against the aircraft. She lifted her gun and gripped the trigger, she pointed it to the mischievous thing, took a deep breath as she pressed the trigger hard. She missed.
The aircraft dodged her shot and instead of it fleeing, fearing for its destruction, it grew relentless on pushing her forward to marshmallows-knows-where. She released an exasperated sigh and faced the retarded hovercraft.
"Leave me be or I'll blow you to ashes!" she shouted. She was growing restless by the minute.
As if being able to comprehend Layla's words, the aircraft flew away from her and disappeared behind a lush green bush. She was beyond relieved.
She shook her head and went back to the road where she rightfully should walk. She whistled and sung as she went along her way. She was almost safe to say that the coast was clear until two colossal demons, in form of dire wolves blocked her path.
She gripped her gun and fired free shots, pushing the trigger beyond comprehension. She wounded one by the chest and it fell but it was the bigger one she should have taken down. It was more of a threat than the one she had gunned down.
The demon lurched forward, its fangs exposed and its eyes bloodshot. Its long nails where aiming for Layla's throat. She backed away and decided to run. Her breath quickened and her legs were growing numb. She has to find a perfect spot to fire her projectile skill. She was a marksman after all. She was good at gunning down her targets from a distance.
But the demon was nearing her each moment and she is defenseless when she is threatened by objects, creatures from a 50 meter radius, its almost as if she was being suffocated from the closeness. She almost pressed her gun's trigger, aiming at the wolf, when a continuous sound of what seemed to be fire pellets were audible.
She reveled at the sight in front of her. She saw the tiny aircraft shooting unending, blazing pellets at the demon. The creature backed away, severely wounded and profusely bleeding as it disappeared from sight.
The aircraft approached Layla, as if mocking her, as if rubbing on her face that an estranged hovercraft just saved her life.
For the first time today, Layla smiled.
She can put her quest to the Land of Dawn later; for now, she'd give in and follow the flying object's directions to who knows where.
Later on, she grew comfortable with the aircraft's subtle nudges and pokes. She didn't know where they were headed to but she had faith at this little thing that saved her.
