Ruby invited Alucard inside her home. She offered him another batch of cupcakes that her guest ever so relentlessly munched on. It was as if he never tasted such a treat before.
"Hey tell me Mr. Swords-- I mean Alucard, haven't you tried pumpkin cupcakes before? You seem so naïve from such a scrumptuous treat." Ruby asked, determined to know her guest's answer which was as she expects, bizzare.
Alucard halted from munching and turned to face the red lady who invited him in her home and fed him tasty cupcakes. "Of course I've tasted these cupakekes before!" He replied defensively, wishing he said the right word for the food that he just ate.
Indeed, he never tasted such kind of food before. It was his first time eating it. He never even knew such a heavenly palatable thing could exist in the realm.
Ruby could only laugh boisterously as she watched her guest mispronounce cupcakes to "cupakekes". She found the word colossally hilarious that she started snorting while laughing, just like a snuckling pig.
"What's so funny?" Alucard grunted, curious of the notion that made the red lady laugh like a lunatic. He was so sure he said the right thing.
"Cupakekes? Seriously?" Ruby chanted, as she threw into fits of laughter again, clutching her stomach because it started to hurt already from all the laughing.
Alucard could only raise his eyebrows as he watched Ruby laugh and snort all at once. He could see her chubby cheeks and how they turned crimson from all the giggling; how her long, blonde hair gently swayed in unison with her body's swift movements; how even with only one eye exposed, she looked so beautiful still.
How her laugh sounded ethereal to his ears even if it sounded like a pig's cry, like its being slaughtered.
"Why are you looking at me that way?" Ruby asked, as she composed herself, wiping the beads of tears that accumulated on the sides of her eyes. She just might had the best laugh in her life. But she was taken aback from the way Alucard was looking at her.
It's as if she was some experiment that he was observing on; as if she was something worth his gaze, worth his time, worth his scrutiny.
"You... you... you remind me of a wailing pig." He recovered, controlling himself from spitting his real thoughts out. He could not just tell a lady, such as Ruby that she is beautiful out of nowhere. It will seem weird and well again... weird.
Ruby's breath was knocked out from her lungs. Did a stranger just tell her that she sounded like a pig? Pretty much like a dying, wailing pig?
She cleared her throat and dusted her red fluffy skirt; she straightened her stance and adjusted her shoulders. She composed herself rather too formally that it gave Alucard another reason to make fun of her.
"Excuse me, what did you just say?" She uttered, giving Alucard a chance to change his former statement by which he called her a wailing pig.
"I said, eh, well it wouldn't matter anyway. I'm heading off now." Alucard chorted, quickly standing up from the wooden stool that he was seated on as he bolted to the door.
Ruby's forehead formed into a thousand creases. The man in front of him was weird beyond comprehension. She lifter her right hand and placed it on her temple, massaging it gently and topically.
She would have just let him go that easily if it wouldn't be for the fact that as Alucard headed for the door, he brought with him a tray full of cupcakes, leaving nothing behind for Ruby.
"Where are you taking those?" Ruby asked, her tone slightly giving off an annoyed tone. Alucard was confused. The lady told him if he wanted cupcakes and of course he did, so he took them all because well... he wanted them all.
"To my place of course?!" The demon hunter replied, grabbing the door knob by his right hand as his left hand held the tray of cupcakes.
"I didn't say that you could bring all of them! I only said that you should take some, not carry home the entire batch!" Ruby said, out of character. She was surprised how easily Alucard made her mad. Maybe it was his way of responding to her in a tone that she despises hearing.
"You can bake another batch for yourself anyway. Have pity on me. I haven't eaten anything that's baked, not until today." Alucard replied, determined to exit Ruby's house as soon as possible so he could eat the cupcakes alone in peace.
Ruby's suspicions were confirmed. Of course a demon hunter couldn't afford to eat such a treat that requires such an intricate process and a lengthy time to prepare. Of course not. He must normally feed himself with roasted bunnies or squirrels out from his hunt in the deep crevices of the forest.
"Okay Mr. You can take them all. I won't deprive you from such awesome treats but couldn't you utter even just a single word of thanks? Or even ask permission that you plan on bringing all those? You're being rude." Ruby replied, determined to stall Alucard. She wanted to be with him for a little bit more. She haven't had anyone to talk to ever since the day her grandparents died and that dauntless man saved her from the hands of White tooth.
She just wanted some company.
"You said I can take them so I don't need to ask you for permission. Anyway, goodbye." Alucard chanted as he twisted the latch of the doorknob open. He flung himself outside and started his steady pace to the land of the assassins.
He was thankful for Ruby but he should not stay long for he knew he has a long journey ahead of him. He could get back to Ruby someday for her help and he knew that day wasn't today.
He scolded himself for being so complicated and dramatic and histrionic. He seem to have surpassed Ruby's level of drama.
It took him some time to travel to the land of the assassins. He went through deep rivers and mudpits full of poisonous kelps.
He stopped in checkpoints and devoured at least 4 to 5 cupcakes with his every stop over.
Knowing that he was nearing his destination, he decided to hasten his footsteps, his pace.
He was excited to team up with the warrior Yun Zhao and the exceptional assassin, Natalia. He has heard a great deal about these people and of others too.
And yet he grew exhausted from all the walking. He decided to stop over in front of a large oak tree. He placed on the ground the tray where the remaining cupckaes lay. He tilted his spine and rested his back on the tree's trunk as he sat down.
"You thought you can run away from me?" A woman's voice suddenly resounded out from the vastness of the forest that he was in.
And he knew to whom that voice belonged.
He opened his eyes only to see Ruby wearing another red cloak on top of her usual clothing as she carried a basket that contained another batch of pumpkin cupcakes.
"If you won't thank me for the cupcakes, I will follow you around until you do thank me. And I won't give you this new batch if you still won't gratify." Ruby said, feeling that she has the upper hand on this cat fight.
"Follow me around then." He replied, determined to taunt Ruby and annoy her until the brim, until her limits.
Little did he knew that Ruby was just catching his attention because she was lonely. Painstakingly, undeniably lonely. And all she has was Alucard, for now.
Or was he hers really?
