Sam woke up calmly for once.
The door was locked again, and no new food was on the desk. He was just happy that he'd been left alone so far.
Sam got up and changed into a new shirt and pants. He looked back at the door and got curious.
The clock said it was 8:30am, usually Robert came in at 7 with cereal.
Sam walked up to the door and it was unlocked. He saw a note that had been halfway shoved under the door.
Dear Sam, I'm out most of today. The front door is secured. I guess feel free to explore a little if you really want to? There's really nothing I don't want you seeing.
-Robert
Sam left it there and continued out cautiously.
It was strange to be in the house all alone. It was empty.
Sam got himself cereal and kept walking.
He saw a door in a hallway off of the kitchen and pushed it open. It must've been Robert's room.
There was a bulletin board on one wall and Sam saw a note that looked rushed tacked on.
- Unlock Sam's door
- Secure front door
- Lock up dangerous stuff
- Lock closet
- Secure my roomThere as a line through everything but the last two points.
"What closet?" Sam mumbled aloud.
Sam walked around until he saw a closet near Robert's desk.
He pulled the door open and saw nothing important. But there was no way it didn't hold anything Sam couldn't see.
Sam stood on a chair to look at the shelf at the top to feel his eyes light up.
His phone.
He turned it on and for a second there was nothing as he sat against the wall in the hallway.
Then they loaded. Thousands of missed calls from Marcus and thousands of messages from him, too.
He opened his phone app and tapped the contact name.
It rang for a few seconds.
"Hello," the voice spoke. Sam felt tears in his eyes.
"D-Damien?" he asked. His voice was quiet and shaky.
"Sam are you okay?" Damien asked.
"I... Damien... I miss you..." Sam said.
"Sam can you give me a common knowledge question?" Damien asked.
He shattered.
"Damien?" he asked as a tear fell from his eye.
"Yes?" he replied.
"Damien... do you know where I am?" he asked.
"In school. It's 9:24," Damien replied. It clicked.
"Damien, it's been four weeks," Sam said. Trying to convince himself that he was wrong.
"Since when?" Damien replied.
"Since I was kidnapped! Robert took me out of my home four weeks ago and you haven't thought about me once?! Damien you missed my birthday! We always spend those together..." Sam shouted, fading off at the end as tears started falling down his face.
"Sam..." Damien mumbled. His voice suddenly had emotion behind it. "I... oh my god... I'm so sorry! I've been so- where are you?!"
"At school, it's 9:24..." Sam said through his tears.
"Sam! I've been so busy studying! I just-" Damien shouted. He got cut off, though.
The phone hit the wall and came apart like a bomb. Sam curled up and took another chance to cry his heart out.
He thought of all people, Damien would be looking for him. Damien would be broken, torn to shreds.
He thought Damien would've missed him.
He thought Damien would...
This was the bracelet Damien gave him. It reminded Sam that Damien loved him. Damien would always be there for Sam. He was probably looking for Sam right now.
He thought even in death... Damien would protect him.
