"Here we are. Go amuse yourself while I find a motel or something," Hayley said a she parked her truck.
"Why can't I just go with you?" Sam asked.
"Because I need some time away from you," Hayley replied laughing to herself.
Sam grumbled and stepped out of the truck before Hayley drove off.
He noticed a pet shop across the street and decided to go check it out. Sometimes when Daniel was bored he hung out at the pet shop with the kittens. He was saving up for one named Sandy if Sam remembered correctly. And she was an adorable kitten, she was energetic and had two different coloured eyes. Damien was drawn to her because he liked odd things.
He pushed open the door and looked over to see a man at a counter who noticed him as the little bell connected to the door rang.
"Hello, you seem like a new face," he said cheerily. He was wearing sunglasses that hid his eyes, despite being inside. Sam don't want to seem too rude of he pointed it out so he just ignored it.
"Uh, yeah. Me and my friend are on a long road trip and needed to stop in to get some rest," Sam explained.
"Where to?" he asked.
"You'd have to ask my friend, I just know it's someplace north of here. We're headed home now," Sam explained. He didn't want to name the town because he didn't want them to be linked with the time of the chain of murders and the time they left.
"So, have you come in to meet the animals?" the man asked.
"Yeah," Sam replied. He was somewhat glad he didn't have his scarf. It was torn up because of Hayley's dog, Mitch. But Hayley just thought that made it cooler and Sam had to admit she'd been right.
Sam was snapped out of his memory as the man started to talk.
He zoned out as he started naming the different animals. Sam got sorta distracted looking at the large fish tanks only to get snapped out of it as the man started talking to one of the animals.
The cat had swatted out at him and he was scolding them. Sam glanced back at the fish and tried not to want them.
"Ah, interested in the fish, I see?" the man asked.
"Yeah, they're quiet," Sam replied.
"Pretty too, aren't they?" the man asked. "I'll leave you with them."
The man left back to his counter and Sam pulled out his phone. Damien did tell him to use it more often.
Sam opened Snapchat, an app Damien and Marc were trying to get him addicted to, and took a picture of the fish. Sending it to his two friends.
He noticed Marc had sent him one earlier that day of Damien posing with Sam's scarf. Sam just shut off his phone and put it back in his pocket.
After a few minutes of watching an angelfish swimming back and forth. Sam realized he had been daydreaming about how peaceful life would be as a fish. They don't have to worry about Angels, constantly risk their lives to protect other people who won't ever know they were saved, and they don't have to be super cautious with everything so they don't get arrested.
Sam finally got up and started to head back out. Waving goodbye to the man as he passed.
Sam started walking down the sidewalk, looking for Hayley. He found her digging through the junk in the back seat of her truck.
"Hey Hayley," Sam greeted.
"Hm? Oh hey Sam! Got us a room to sleep in. What were you up to?" she asked.
