Marc was behind in all of his classes. The Owens had asked him to come home and he always told them the same thing. "When I get Sam back."
Damien was there now. He'd shown up a few days ago in front of Marus freaking out and crying.
He looked broken, Damien was never this emotional about anything.
It fueled Marc even more. Before Damien had ignored everything Marc said, so it hurt to be around him. To hear someone who cared that little.
They had to find Sam now.
"What the hell?" Mitch asked. "There's a video of the guy we're looking for trending everywhere online."
Damien got his phone out and pulled up the video.
There was Sam with an unfamiliar man. Hannah told them he was Robert.
"Where is that?! Where the hell is he?!" Damien shouted. "I need to go there now!"
"It could be any building in any town," Alen replied.
"Just look at him! He needs my help!" Damien shouted.
"Damien, he'll be fine," Marc said.
"I know where that is. But I dont know the name of it," Alen said.
"Where is it?!" Damien asked.
"I don't know. I was taken there once and I know how to get to there from our place. I was living in that building for a while when I worked for the Org. I know how to get there but it's honestly been years. Sorry Dam," Alen said.
"Sam doesn't like it when people call me that," Damien said. Alen slid down in their seat slightly.
"It'll take a day to get there from our place. We'll be there tomorrow evening," Alen spoke.
"How can you recognize that building?" Marc asked.
"It's where I met Robert. Before the Org knew he was an Angel we were neighbors. I thought he'd have moved."
"Why didn't you go there first?!" Damien shouted.
"Why the hell would he stay there?!" Alen shouted back.
"Because you thought he wouldn't!" Damien replied. Alen didn't have a response to that.
Marc had seen it all unfold. He realized that Damien and Alen never showed signs of being anything over acquaintances. Alen was trying their best, or so it seemed, and Damien was too mad with himself to take that into account. Everything was chaos and not just because Sam was gone.
But because the second angel apocalypse had started and the humans were aware.
And it was bad.
Marc had already been asked to come home. By the Owens when the apocalypse started, twice a day from Megan, begging to see him again.
His phone started ringing and he answered. His voice cutting through the silence. "Hey Panda."
"Marcus..." she said. Her voice was shaky and he felt worried instantly. He saw Damien hold his head in his hands, he knew why. Marc was always worried about Megan. He cared 4 weeks later.
"Megan, what's wrong?" Marc asked.
"What's happening... Sam's friend Hayley has people hiding in her basement. There's insane weather patterns here, there's strange fighting... Hayley won't talk to me about it..." Megan asked.
"Oh no... they're in Aaronbrooke? What the hell do I do?" Marc asked.
"Come home... I want you to be here..." Megan begged. Marc was about to make the hardest desision of his life.
"Damien. This is Sam's knife. I stole it from the Owens. This is a change of clothes with his symbol on the shirt right over his heart. It was his favourite. Bring me back to Aaronbrooke. You can find Sam for us, with these guys... you're already on your way there and you've protected Sam ten times more than anyone else. I'll keep the people back home safe. Bring him home for us."
Damien took the bag and he looked back up at Marc. He was going to cry again.
"I'll be right there, Megan," Marc said.
"Please come soon," she begged. Marc smiled slightly. He'd really missed her.
"Okay, see you soon," Marc replied.
"See you. Love you," Megan said.
"Love you too," Marc finished. He hung up the phone.
"You're together...?" Damien asked.
"We were hiding it but it's an apocalypse out there..." Marc replied.
"We'll pull over to wait for you," Mitch said.
Damien held out a hand and set the bag down. Marc took it and within seconds they were in front of Hayley's house.
"Marcus!" Hayley shouted. "Your girlfriend's-"
But he was gone, already pushing inside. He got halfway downstairs and couldn't spot her.
"Megan!" Marc shouted. Then he saw her and vaulted the railing to run over to her as their arms wrapped around each other and he felt tears in his eyes. "I'm so sorry..."
"I don't care. You're just here now," Megan said. Then she pushed him back and her expression was serious. "Now explain everything."
