"Sam! Are you seriously studying at a time like this! You can't be an Angel Hunter with your face in school books!"
The book was ripped out of his hands and thrown into the cramped backseat area of the truck that was full of suitcases of random junk.
"Hayley! Are you kidding me?! I have to study for the Literacy Test in a few weeks! It's required to graduate!" the boy shouted.
"Oh come on, blue scarf, I never did it and you don't see that effecting my life," she replied.
"Yeah, because you left school in Grade 11. And you never cared about school, you skipped almost all of your exams because of Angels!" he shouted back.
"That's because there's no point in school when you're an Angel Hunter. My parents said as soon as I could drive I could drop out. And it's not like I failed ever anyways," she said.
"Yeah well I care about my education," he said. Resulting to scrolling through notes on his phone about the current Angel. "So, what's the deal with this one?"
"People disappearing at night to be found in an alleyway with their skull bashed in," she said calmly.
"So some Angel is dragging people into an alleyway to beat them to a pulp with some big hammer?" he implied. "Gross. I can't stand Angels."
Hayley laughed at him as he bulled his knife out of his bag, running his gloves fingers over the blue overturned triangle symbol on it.
"What, you nervous?" she asked, looking away from the road for a second.
"Me? No!" he replied with a tone of anger and shock in his voice. She just laughed to herself and turned her gaze ahead again.
"Regardless, you can't stay in school if you want to be an Angel Hunter, Sam. Just stating the obvious," she said.
"Yeah I know. My parents just... they always care about my education. I don't know why they even let you take me on hunts all the time," he said. Putting the knife back in his bag and zipping it up.
"Because you know what your grandma would do if she knew they didn't!" Hayley shouted. Laughing at the thought. "Your parents can't keep you back from dropping out. If you want to then do it!"
"I'll think about it, we're almost there anyways," Sam said as they started pulling into the town. The sun was setting and their only plan was to find the Angel and leave.
They went into a small restaurant to wait where Hayley ordered a milkshake as Sam sat and studied until the restaurant was closing and the street lights turned on.
"By the way. You do know your studying is pointless because we won't get back in time anyways," Hayley said.
"What?!" Sam shouted as they stepped outside and started walking down the streets. "We still have a few weeks!"
"Not anymore, we're taking a road trip," she said.
"Since when?!" he shouted back.
"I just decided to. We'll get home in about two months," she said smiling.
"Did you at least tell my parents?" he groaned back. Shoving his book into his bag.
"Nope, you can call them later," she replied. "Wait over there!"
Sam followed her gesture to see a lady holding a man's wrist and gently leading him into an alley. Hayley took off, gettin to the opening and drawing her axe from her bag as Sam followed after with a tight grip on his knife.
"Keep quiet," Hayley whispered, Sam nodded and silently followed her into the alley.
The lady was reaching behind a box and saying something to the man.
As soon as she raised her hammer Sam jumped out as Hayley failed to stop him.
"Stop where you stand!" he shouted. Holding his knife out and drawing attention to himself and in turn Hayley.
"And what do we have here? A couple of hunters, huh? Well it's nice to meet you too, my name's Mayit! And may it be a pleasure to meet you two," she said, walking over and giggling to herself.
The man from before started to back off and ran, Mayit paying no attention to him.
"What kind of name is that?" Hayley replied. Holding her axe in front of her and getting ready to strike.
The Angel didn't reply, she swung forwards and nearly hit Sam.
Hayley swung in response but the Angel had already blocked her strike.
"I missed having an actual challenge in an Angel," Hayley replied. Sam came out of his shock and tried to catch the angel off guard but got hit in the back and fell away dropping his knife and calling out in pain.
Mayit started laughing. Turning back to Hayley who kept her cool and swung again, which the Angel just dodged and hit her in the side, leaving her to stumble forwards and barely block the next blow.
Sam forced himself up and grabbed his knife, his back hurt but he didn't want to look weak again.
Sam managed to swing and get a deep, long cut across the Angel's back as it cried out, allowing Hayley to deliver a killing blow as it was caught off guard.
"Go Sam! Great work there bud!" Hayley said.
"Uh... thanks. Look can we not go on some silly road trip if I agree to just drop out?" he asked. Looking up from his phone.
"Changed your mind so fast?" she replied.
"My friend from school texted me asking about my knife I keep in my bag," he said. Smiling slightly.
"Eh, I didn't really want to go on a trip anyways. Which friend? Damien?" Hayley asked.
"No, Marc," he replied.
"Okay, let's just head home. There's stuff going on at the mall. I want to check that out tomorrow," she said.
"Since when?" he asked as they started walking back to Hayley's truck.
"I have my ways of knowing stuff," she replied.

Author's NoteWelcome to my book, Angels! It may start slow but it will pick up eventually. This is a project I've made over the course of a year and I've finally finished it up.
This book started off with heavy inspiration from the TV series Supernatural, but I feel like after the first few chapters the story becomes more independant. The story is divided between three parts. Two parts of action and a resting part between them.
I hope you enjoy the book, I've commited a lot of time and thought into it. If you spot any spelling or grammar mistakes please point them out to me with inline comments.
