* Felix*
I wake up and leave Marzia to sleep.I go to the kitchen to take a sip of water and I set upon making a list. I'm going to take Marzia to the store today to buy some materials for her 'poppets'. I find the pencil and notepad and think about what she might need for her little project. I write down a series of things she might need in capital letters, and draw little boxes next to every item.NEEDLE ☑
THREAD. ☑
CLOTH. ☑
SCISSORS. ☑
????? ☑
I left the last one empty because I want to buy something different for her.
I feel a hand on my shoulder and look up to see Marzia wearing my Stephano tee shirt.
I really want to buy more clothes for her. I wish my paycheck came sooner. But I understand it comes at the end of the month and it ain't coming without me uploading.
She looks gorgeous without makeup. I quickly tuck the paper in the pocket of my pants and give her a hug. She stands on her toes and wraps her arms around my neck. She settles her head on my chest and we stay like that for a while.
"Wear some jeans and let's go" I beckon and she smiles at me while she plays with her loose curls. "Where do we go?" She asks.
"To the shop to buy your material!" I pipe and her eyes widen in surprise. "You remembered?" She asks and I smile back at her. "Of course I did! This means a lot to me." I assure her and she puts her hands to her heart. I pour some dog food in the bowl and acknowledge that the bag is empty. I let out a sigh and toss it in the trash can. I whip out my phone and open the text window. I am about to do the most embarrassing thing ever.Ask my sister.
To Fanny: Fanny can you please save a pack of dog food for Maya? Mine is over. :(
I hit the send button with another sigh. I know the food for a Yorkshire terrier is not enough for a pug but I really can't help it.
I get an almost immediate reply from her.
From Fanny: Sure Felix! Coming over? I got something for Marzia! ;)
I smile and send her a smiley emoticon in reply. I really don't want to show my parents or sister that I'm having trouble living without them. I just don't want them to feel like I'm still dependant. My phone vibrates again.
From Fanny: Is that a yes or a no you dork?
To Fanny: Yes haha
Marzia approaches me again, this time with my shirt tucked into her jeans. The house keys dangle on her straight index finger and she lands on the adjacent wall.
"Where's your handbag?" I ask her innocently. She makes a noise that probably means "Oh I'm so stupid" and marches back to our room to get it. She struts out hastily and trips on her bare foot and falls on her knees. I rush out to her and hear her erupting in giggles. She stays on her knees as she fixes her slightly awry hair. I help her up and laugh as she continues giggling. "How do the people on telly pull that off?" She asks and I shrug. I whistle and Maya jogs to my feet. She eyes the half full bowl and runs swiftly to the bowl and laps it up hungrily. I feel a twinge in my heart as we leave her inside the house.
"It's okay, we'll take her out for a walk today evening, okay?" Marzia consoles my fading smile.I take her under my arm as we walk towards a small shop, dubbed "Needles and Creations". My mother used to knit a lot for us when we were younger so I was a frequent visitor, till she became the CIO of KappAhl, of course. Marzia seems to fall in love with the place instantly. The shopkeeper, not recognising me, gives us a welcoming nod as we stroll down the aisles for something interesting. She picks up a white spool of thread and I pick up my wallet and count the cash. I internally sigh and say goodbye to this week's vegetables. I shake my head microscopically and convince myself that she'll be happy and that's what I want. We move on to the cloth aisle and her eyes lay on a really pretty blue fabric with small roses dotting the surface. "Buy it." I command as she giggles and tosses it in the basket I'm holding. She finds some cotton and I give her a weird look. She returns the look back to me and I look away.
So she really doesn't mean puppets, because puppets are not..... stuffed?
I lay my eyes on a deep red sheet of something and I move in that direction. I gently stroke it and immediately recognise it as velvet. I toss the delicate sheet in the basket and come back to a tense looking Marzia.
"Wh...where were you?" She stammers.
"Oh....I was here. Look I got something for your puppet!" I show her the sheet and she grins as she runs her fingers along the textured surface.
"I love it!" She exclaims and punches my stomach.
Why was she scared?
I leave the question lingering at the back of my mind and I resume shopping with Marzia. After tossing a few buttons in the basket, she points her head towards the cashier and I close my eyes, praying that I have enough money to survive after this."Felix?" A familiar voice speaks. I open my eyes to see the shopkeeper looking at me, her eyeglasses perched at the tip of her nose.
"Ms. Bjorne?" I reply.
"Felix how are you? It's been a long time! Who's this pretty girl?" She asks in English, surprisingly.
"I'm fine, Miss! This is my girlfriend from Italy. Her name is Marzia." I look at Marzia as she gives her a little wave. "Look at what a handsome man you've become! It seems like yesterday you were running errands for your knitting crazy mum and now she's a big woman in a big company!"
I nod, smiling. I feel glad she recognizes me and blush slightly. Marzia looks at me, smiling too. "How is the shop going, Miss?" I ask courteously. "Oh don't worry about me,Felix! Things never change in this old town, do they? Business as usual, just a few less young boys in the shop, no?" Hinting at me. "I remember everything from when he was a child, Marzia. He was in fifth and he wanted to buy six spools of wool for his mother on her birthday. When I asked him where he got that money from, he said it was his lunch money. I gave him ten. And now look at him. A brilliant young man indeed!" She praises as I blush harder. "I missed you, Miss."
"I missed you too, son!"
"Don't worry! We'll come here regularly because I love crafting so much!" Marzia chimes in and I squeeze her hand lightly, making her flush.
"You should be on your way now, have a nice day!" Ms. Bjorne waves and I give her a confused look.
"But the money?" I trail off as she gives me the warm, familiar smile I had missed for years.
"Come back with a full wallet next time."
I cover my tomato red face and thank her for the generosity and she dismisses it, petting me on the back. We head off to my parents, moved and relieved.[A/N: okay sorry for not updating sooner. Ironically I was planning what was gonna happen in the world of fetus Felix and Marzia so I wrote all scenarios down in a word file. Incoming drama!
