*Felix*

I look at Marzia's face as she hears the yelps and whines that come from the adoption center and the reaction is everything I ever wanted. She hugs me tightly, squealing in joy. I lift her up playfully, while she kicks in excitement. I grab her hand as we walk into the center.

"Probably the most difficult decision I will ever have to make in my life" she jokes. We knock on the wooden door and we hear some high pitched barks making Marzia even happier. The door opens to a woman of above sixty, her grey hair combed neatly and contained into a rubber band. She wore a dark blue gown and wore round silver rimmed spectacles that were perched precariously at the tip
of her pointed nose.

"God Morgon, vad heter du?" She asks me.
"My name is Felix. Could be please speak in English?" I reply, not wanting Marzia to feel left out.

"Sure sure. Felix we have a variety of puppies up for adoption. Come inside, you two. Come make yourself at home with them."
We both smile at each other as we both walk inside, hand in hand. We are greeted with a swarm of puppies, some of them are Labradors, some of them are Yorkies, and only two of them are  pugs.
We look at all the adorable innocent faces, while we sit down on the floor, unable to make a decision. One puppy catches my eye.

She is tiny and plump, with little white legs and paws. She has a corkscrew tail and an adorable face, and....

Only one eye.

The dog and I make eye contact and she comes running to me while the other dogs resume their bidding. She places her palm softly on my right knee while I pet her head lightly. Marzia picks her up and cuddles her and looks at her face.
"Such a poor doggy. Imagine the pain she must have gone through to lose her eye like that!" She said sadly.
The lady enters the room and sees us cuddling the puppy.

"That dog was scratched by a cat... she was in a really pathetic situation but I'm happy she pulled through! But no one wants an imperfect dog nowadays do they? They leave her behind because of her main defect. Because she has only one eye!"

At that moment, I make up my mind and look at Marzia, who holds the dog closer to herself, like a child who won't let go of her favourite toy.

"We're adopting her."

people are under the illusion that perfect dogs are the ones with all body parts. But she's perfect to us, and breaks that illusion.

"And we're naming her, Maya."

[A/N: Maya means illusion.]
