Chapter 13

Jenny's POV

I sit on Lilac's bed. I've been helping her out a lot lately. Because she can't get around the house by herself even when she's using her crutches. She tries her best but it's the better choice to have someone with her.

"Jennyyy!" Lilac whines.

"What?" I say. My voice sounds like I'm crying. I don't want her to know I'm crying.

"I wanna go record," she says.

I wipe my tears away and say,"Okay. Let's go."

We walk down stairs and we take the elevator. In the elevator Lilac and I start talking.

"What's wrong?" she asks, rubbing her hand on my shoulder in comfort.

"I'm sorry. I'm sorry I had to make you break your ankle. I endangered your baby. At least she's not hurt..."

"Jenny, why did you try to kill yourself?" Her voice cracks. Why do I have to make her cry also?

"Because I don't want this anymore!" I say. Then I realize what this is. Life. I don't want my life anymore. Nobody needs me. I can't stand life without my mom...

"Jenny, no! You can't..."

"Nobody needs me!" I cry. I let a sobs escape me.

"I need you! Jerome needs you! Lily needs you! We all need you! Especially me! I couldn't stand life without you! It would suck so much! Jenny....my life is practically over without you."

"No it's not! You have Mitch! You have your baby!"

"No, Jenny. It is. I need you."

"And I need you," I say. Lilac and I hug and and sob and let everything out in this elevator moment.

---skip about 3 hours---

I walk Lilac back to her room and Mitch watches her. I go back to my room. I see Jerome at his computer editing a video.

"Hey," he says.

"Hi," I say glumly.

"What's wrong?" he asks as he turns to face me.

"Nothing," I lie. "I'm just going out onto the balcony."

"Do I need to supervise?" That's when I lose it.

"STOP IT!! I DON'T NEED A SUPERVISOR!!! I'M 19, I THINK I'LL BE OKAY!!!" I scream.

"Wel-"

"Don't 'well' me! I don't need supervised! Why would I?! Does my husband not even trust me?!"

"I trust y-"

"Then why do I need a supervisor?!"

"Because you were about to run out the front door!"

"Yes. Because nobody needs me. No one will care if I die! NO ONE!!"

"You can't say that," he says soft and quietly. "Because I need you. Lily needs you! How could you say nobody needs you?! Of everyone in this house, you're the one who we couldn't get along without! You and Lilac. You guys are the girls! Lily...we would have a lot of trouble without her. But you...you're the one we all need."

"No I'm not," I whisper between sobs.

"Yes you are," he says very quietly. "I love you."

"I love you too," I say. I sit down on his lap and he wraps his arms around me. I rest my head on his shoulder and he rests his head on mine. "Can I go out on the balcony now?"

"Yeah." I start for the door and he grabs my arm and pulls me back he kisses me, very hard, then says,"Only if you promise not to jump off or hurt yourself."

"Jerome-"

"Promise me," he says sternly.

"I promise," I say. But I didn't mean it. I make no promises that I won't jump.
