Carter sat back in the plastic chair. He watched the rest of the football team divide the teams again for some touch football. This couldn't be more boring. At least Chase was with him.
Carter closed his eyes as Chase played a game on his phone. Why did he and Chase even come? Carter thought. He guessed it was out of boredom. The cut off of a car engine made Carter open his eyes. Luke made it. Now the rest of the team would argue about which team got him.
Carter relaxed listening to the loud, obnoxious greeting the team had to offer.
"Where were you, dude?" One guy asked, Carter thought it to be Matt Langston.
"Out with a girl." Luke plainly answered. Carter looked right at Luke. Feeling Carter give him the ultimate stare down, Luke turned his back.
The team replied loudly. Shut up. Carter continued his thoughts. "Who might that be?" Another player asked.
Luke just shrugged. He got complaints from the guy. "Dude, when we gonna see her? She hot?" Matt said over the crowd.
Luke thought about the answers to give. "You'll see her at the formal, I guess. I rather not answer that last one."
The was dead silence for a minute. Until the team busted out in laughter. "You're falling, Luke." Someone yelled. Translation, Carter thought, "falling" in love.
"No f'ing way." Luke answered. "She's just something to get by."
Carter and Chase met eyes. They would remember that, just in case Sydney needed ammo in an argument.

"What the hell is wrong?" I yelled over the whoops from the girls.
Tess put down the sodas and handed me a dress. Laila spoke, "We got you a dress, go try it on."
"Later," I muttered, taking it. "Is that all the hollering was about?"They all shook their heads. I sat down and they followed. "Okay, then what else?"
Tessa took out her phone and scrolled, looking for something. When she did, she shoved it into my hands.
"Brian
We got the gig at the formal"
I looked from the phone to Tessa, "Seriously?" When she nodded we all, including me, hollered. When things calmed down, Tessa said, "We're getting paid to do several covers and it would only be up to like twelve songs."
I was shaking in excitement. "The guys know?" I asked.
"No, Brian couldn't get a hold of them," Kira answered. Then a door opened and slammed shut. I looked at the time. It was still a little pass three.
"What're you guys doing home so early?" I asked my dad as Alana quickly went upstairs.
He shrugged, "Didn't have that much to do today. It's about to rain, supposed to be pouring hard."
That is when I noticed he was wet. My thoughts shot to Luke. Raining equals no football. I shooed away thoughts that started to stray, like the possiblity that of lying.
My dad turned to my friends. "Are you girls staying the night?" They shrugged,
"I guess it's depending on the weather." Laila replied.
That wasn't true. They would stay over if they got comfortable.
