Sophie slowly rolled off her bed and stared blearily at the clock, weariness in every inch of her body. Tonight, Jason will be picking her up for the prom and she felt tired. Sleep had eluded her and she had been turning and tossing last night and was barely able to sleep, unable to quiet her thoughts.

She had been avoiding Mace the whole week but he was very persistent. She was surprised to find chocolates in her locker with really cheesy notes. Yesterday, she was surprised to see him talking and laughing with her parents. Her gaze narrowed at this and she was glaring at him. He just returned her stare with a smile.

It became awkward when her parents asked him what time he will be picking Sophie up for the prom. She uncomfortably explained that she will be going with another guy. Her mom gasped and said that that's the worst joke she ever made.

Mason was smirking at her and she was getting irritated with him. The nerve of him! So when her mom asked her again, she snidely explained that Mason was the first one who accepted another date in the prom. Her mom narrowed her gaze at him and raised her eyebrows. He had the grace to blush and mumbled that it was her fault.

"What!?" she had shouted at him, clearly pissed.

"Well, that's the truth! You were taking so very long to ask me and girls have been asking me right and left and it was irritating as hell!" he replied back.

"Well, excuse me! I didn't realize that I have a timeline! If you had wanted to go to the prom with me, you should have just asked me. You didn't have to say "Yes" to Marissa and you didn't have to go out on a date with her!" she was now on a roll and the frustration and anger she was feeling came out.

"And you certainly didn't have to f*cking SLEEP with her!" she shouted then gasped as she realized that her mom was looking at her in surprise.

"I didn't sleep with her! I fell asleep alone and I don't know how she managed to sneak into my room." Mason desperately explained. "You can ask Chris or Yas. God, why can't you just let me explain instead of avoiding me."

"If she sneaked in your room, why the hell are you naked with her?!" she exclaimed.

"I don't know G but I'm going to find out. Just please don't do this. Don't pretend that I don't exist and that I don't freaking matter to you. Just please stop avoiding me. You're killing me." he replied, his eyes shining.

Sophie was taken aback at what he said and at his desperate tone. Her mom was looking back and forth between them, her eyes getting bigger and bigger at what they were saying.

"Sophie, Mace, please just try to calm down." she sighed. "Mace, why don't you go home first so you can both calm down?"

Mason apologized to her mom and grudgingly went home. She called up Yas last night and asked her what happened the night of the party. Yasmin embarrassedly explained that Marissa had helped her put Mace on Chris's guestroom. However, Yasmin specifically asked Marissa to leave the room after helping Mace to the bed. Mason was already asleep during that time.

Her theory was that Marissa did sneak into Mason's room but she seriously doubted that Mace was awake when she did that. She added that although Mace was her twin brother, Sophie was her best friend and she would never lie to her.

Her conversation with Mason and Yasmin was messing with her head. Anger, jealousy, and sadness had combined to give her a restless night. Sighing, she got out of the bed and took a shower hoping that this will somehow calm her restless thoughts.

Figuring that her mom was still asleep since the sun had not risen yet, she headed out to the kitchen to grab some food. She was surprised when she saw her mom cooking. Her mom smiled at her and nodded to a seat nearby. She took a seat and watched her mom cook while humming quietly.

"Mom, how come you and dad seem to have the perfect relationship? Don't you ever fight?" she asked sighing.

"Uh Oh, my baby has some boy problems." her mom replied, teasing her. "Love was not meant to be easy, sweetheart. Your dad and I fight but we made a commitment to each other and at the end of the day, I couldn't bear living without him."

"Eww, that's so cheesy mom." Sophie replied raising her eyebrows.

Her mom laughed at that. "Says my daughter who begged us to let Mace come during our family vacation and said she couldn't bear it if he was not there and promised that she will do all the housework if he came."

Sophie blushed at that. "It was just a phase." She replied airily.

"Ah huh, really now." Her mom replied slyly . "So tell me, why are you fighting with Mason and who is your prom date?"

"Mom, please. Mace has always been so exasperating and he's dating someone else. It's not as if I care. Anyway, I'm going out with Jason." she explained.

"You seem to care a lot when you were shouting last night," her mom replied raising her eyebrows.

"I was just angry with him because he is such a jerk!" Sophie replied defensively.

"So who is this Jason?"

"Jason is from my class. He plays football. And-"

"The football star? The one your dad was praising for his skills?!" her mom replied excitedly.

"Oh wow. He's pretty hot."

"Eww, mom, why do you have to say that? That's disgusting coming from you!"

"Oh c'mon Sophie. I was just stating a fact. Oh wow. I can't believe you are being pursued by two very hot guys. It must be because of my genes," her mom replied teasingly.

"Whatever mom! I am just so confused. Jason is so sweet and smart. He might be a football star but his IQ is probably higher than mine. We like the same things and we understand each other. He's so different from Mace." Sophie exclaimed.

Her mom looked at her then smiled, "He seems to be a wonderful guy. I'm glad to meet him later when he picks you up."

"But mom, what do I do? I'm so confused with Mace and Jason." she said, running her fingers through her hair in agitation.

"Oh sweetheart, just ask yourself, can you bear it if Mason or Jason is out of your life? But you're still so young my dear. Just enjoy high school for now." Her mom replied chucking her chin. "Now be a darling and call your dad for breakfast. Let's check your prom dress after we eat."

Sophie ate silently and just watched her parents bantering. Her mom's words came to her. Can she bear it if she lets Mason go?
