I'm so sorry for the late update. I was struggling with a writer's block and got stumped with work. Hope you're still reading this.

Sophie stared warily at Mason and guiltily looked at Jason. The situation was suddenly charged and she didn't know what to do. She was looking at both of them helplessly but then decided to take charge of the situation. She nodded aloofly at Mason, acknowledging him. She was still angry with him and it didn't help at all that he was looking at them as though she had hurt him.
"Hi Mace. I didn't know you also frequent the park." she said stiffly at him.
Mason flinched at her words but he would rather have Sophie angry with him instead of ignoring him. It hurt a lot when he scarcely saw Sophie today. Playing basketball this afternoon felt empty when he didn't see her and it felt as though his strength is draining when she's not there.
"I do go to this park G. We use to go here when we were kids, remember? See that oak tree over there, isn't that where we etched our names?" he said looking into her eyes trying to evoke their childhood memories.
Jason's eyes narrowed at that. He had been trying all day to cheer Sophie up. He had known her for only a short time but he felt like they were kindred spirits. It's like finding someone who understands you and knows how you think. He knew that he was known to be the school's playboy but it was only because he got bored easily with his dates. It was so different with Sophie. Sometimes it amazes him that when they talk, they almost end each other's sentences.
And he had no intention of letting Mason get Sophie back. It was Mason's fault that he let her slip out of his hands but he was glad he did that. It was very stupid of him. It also pains him to see Sophie getting hurt by Mason repeatedly and there is no way that he will let him do that to her again.
"Kid is the operative word Mason. How long ago was that, 10 years ago? I doubt if Sophie even remembers it." Jason said mockingly.
Mason's eyes snapped at him in anger but he fought it back. He didn't want to get angry in front of Sophie. His eyes narrowed at Jason and he knew he was just waiting for him to flare up but he won't because he didn't want to hurt Sophie anymore. Looking back, he realized that his temper had caused him to slowly lose her and he was not going to be that person again.
"I know Jason but I was asking Sophie not you." He said calmly although he was clenching his fists.
Sophie gazed at Mason and was surprised that he didn't burst in anger. He was still being sarcastic but he was calm.
"That was a long time ago Mace. What brings you here?" she asked.
"I was just trying to clear my head," He replied looking at her. "Actually, I was just thinking of ways to get you back." He thought.
"In that case, we'll leave you so you can clear your head." Jason said sarcastically. He was getting angry at the way Mason was trying to compose himself. He knew that he was bent on getting Sophie back but he had no intention of doing that. He had hurt her so much and he didn't deserve her. Sophie and Mason was like night and day. They are too different and he had no intention of letting Mason hurt Sophie again.
"I will just get your flowers and chocolates Soph and then shall we go?" he asked her softly.
"Soph? Are they on a nickname basis now?" Mason thought, his heart clenching at that. He saw Jason go back to a bench and Mason's eyes narrowed at the chocolates and flowers Jason was holding for Sophie.
"I'm sorry Mace. We have to go." Sophie told him apologetically and walked to where Jason was.
Mason's eyes trailed after them. His heart was pounding in despair but he was not brought up to give up so easily. He didn't win MVPs by giving up at the sign of an obstacle. He had practiced even when it hurts and his efforts paid off. Sophie was more important to him than basketball and he will never ever give her up. He will endure any pain as long as he gets her back. THIS IS NOT THE END. He will win Sophie back even if it kills him.
