Sophie was avoiding Mason the whole day and was confused why her classmates had been giving her sympathetic looks. Yasmin had finally approached her and looked at her apologetically, showing the provocative picture of both Mason and Marissa. Her eyes widened at what she saw and felt as though her breath was knocked out of her.

She was trying so hard to piece herself together and it didn't help that Mason was looking at her as though she had broken his heart and not the other way around. He had dark circles below his eyes and looked as though he had not even bothered to shave or comb his hair. It was so unfair that he still looked devastatingly vulnerable and handsome while she looked like a mess with her puffy eyes. She knew that they had to talk but she felt she was not ready for it and so she had avoided him like a plague the whole day.

It helped a lot that Jason was with her the whole time. She was surprised when he showed up in front of her house with flowers and chocolates, looking so fresh and gorgeous. She was so touched at his gesture especially when he was looking a bit shy and mentioned that this was the first time that he was wooing someone and hoped he was doing it correctly. When she got into the car, Jason said she gets to choose the radio station or song that she wants and told her, "you're the first girl I ever allowed to choose," and then he winked at her, making her smile.

She was randomly changing stations when suddenly, Debbie Gibson's 90's song, "Didn't have a heart" started playing. She was caught up with the words and it felt as though the song was meant for her and she listened to it and closed her eyes to feel the music.

I found somebody new

Though you mustn't believe

That means I'm over you

I know that in time

We'll figure it out

You'll read my mind

And though I'll wait for that day

Without making a sound

I don't want to be

The one who's letting you down

I just want you to know

The reason behind the rhyme

She opened her eyes and looked at Jason who was silently driving, "Could it be that she finally found someone new and that it was time to let Mason go?"

It's not that

I didn't have the time

Didn't have the love

I didn't have the strength

Not to fall apart

It's not that I don't care

It's just I wouldn't dare

Cause I just don't have the heart

Loving Mason was draining her strength and she could see that being with Jason would be so easy. It was always all or nothing with Mason but the chemistry that they had was so strong but sometimes it felt like it was sucking her soul. She always thought that loving someone should be easy. They were in high school and it should be light and fun. With Mason, it feels like they were old souls and she had to give everything she had.

Jason was so different. He was like the light, brightening her day and cheering her up. They were so similar in so many ways and they understood each other.

Love is not black and white

You'd believe that it's true

If you saw me tonight

I struggle with what is real

But the logical side

Doesn't stop what I feel

And though you're holding your breath

To be given a sign

Your heart cannot be

Broken in pieces like mine

I just want you to know

The reason behind the rhyme

Loving you was more than I could stand

I was scared my heart was in your hand

But I know now

I figured it out

Beyond a shadow of a doubt

I must let go

Was it really time to let Mason go and let Jason in? She was so confused that she didn't realize that they had arrived in school and that Jason was opening the door for her. He helped her get down his jeep and accompanied her to class. He was with her the whole day passing out notes or texting her nerdy lines.

It started with a text during English Lit class saying, "If you were a library book, I would never bring you back." And then during Algebra, he texted, "I like you more than a nerd likes math."

She was almost caught laughing in their Chemistry Class when he texted, "You make my dopamine levels go silly." She can imagine now how easy it would be if she stayed with Jason. Jason has such an easy going and friendly personality that it's hard not to like him. He was also sweet and caring. He asked her to go to the park and they were bantering nerdy jokes. She was already laughing when he started tickling her.

She was laughing so hard at what he was doing and started running to avoid him. Her eyes widened, when she saw a familiar figure looking at her with a hurt look. Her heart thudded and she suddenly couldn't breathe. It still hurt so much looking at him and remembering him with Marissa. Suddenly the words to Debbie Gibson song started replaying in her mind.

Loving you was more than I could stand

I was scared my heart was in your hand

But I know now

I figured it out

Beyond a shadow of a doubt

I must let go

Is it finally time to let Mason go?
