Sophie was looking at the roses with the notes and was feeling overwhelmed with what was written. She wanted to talk to Mason but couldn't find him when the lights suddenly dimmed. Their hosts went in front and started talking.
"Ladies and gentleman, we have a very special presentation for tonight. The basketball team has volunteered to render us a song number."
Jason eyes narrowed as he heard this. Mason was up to something and he can feel it. He had been interviewed by their school paper and asked for several photos for their yearbook and he had a feeling he was being cornered whenever he tried going back to Sophie's side.
The lights at the stage suddenly went up and everyone saw the team in front. Chris was at the drums, Quinn was holding a guitar and James was on the keyboard. Mason stood in the middle of the stage, holding the microphone. He looked red-faced and a bit embarrassed but he smiled as the lights focused on him. Everyone was shouting and the ladies ran in front, sighing in admiration.
"This song is dedicated to the girl who had always been there for me but my pride got in the way in admitting how I felt for her. I have hurt her so much and it's tearing me apart. She's the reason I play basketball and I feel heartbroken not seeing her around. I feel so bad right now, knowing how much I've hurt her and how much I've hurt myself in return. I'm so sorry." Mason earnestly said. He was rocking on his feet, his heart racing as he realized that everyone's attention was focused on him. His eyes searched the crowd until it landed on Sophie's and his heart quieted when he saw her shining eyes.
He smiled softly at her then took the microphone as Quinn started strumming the guitar saying, "Sorry seems to be the hardest word."
The girls in front were looking at Mason in admiration and sighing at the way he looked. He did not notice but concentrated on looking at Sophie sincerely as he began singing.
What I got to do to make you love me?
What I got to do to make you care?
What do I do when lightning strikes me?
And I wake to find that you're not there?
Mason had a low baritone voice and he sang with all his feelings for Sophie which had been bottled inside, hoping to convey it to her. The girls in front screamed when they heard him, raising their hands and dancing to his beat. Some of them were shouting "I love you Mason!" but he didn't even glance at them. Instead his eyes stayed remained glued on Sophie as he continued singing.
What I got to do to make you want me?
What I got to do to be heard?
What do I say when it's all over?
Sorry seems to be the hardest word.
It's sad, so sad
It's a sad, sad situation.
And it's getting more and more absurd.
It's sad, so sad
Why can't we talk it over?
Oh, it seems to me
That sorry seems to be the hardest word.
Mason was looking at Sophie, letting her know how sorry he was and how he wanted to talk it over with her. He was desperate and wanted a chance with her. He had tried several means to corner her and talk to her but she was effectively avoiding him and it's driving him insane. It wounds him to see Sophie and Jason. He was willing to embarrass himself for her. It didn't matter if they all think he was insane but he didn't mind as long as Sophie can see how much she means to him.
What do I do to make you want me?
What I got to do to be heard?
What do I say when it's all over?
Sorry seems to be the hardest word.
It's sad, so sad
It's a sad, sad situation.
And it's getting more and more absurd.
It's sad, so sad
Why can't we talk it over?
Oh, it seems to me...
Sorry seems to be the hardest word.
Yeah.
Sorry!
Chris took out the bouquet of roses at the back and walked in front of Mason, giving him the flowers. Mason took the flowers as he walked down the stage, softly singing, getting nearer to Sophie.
What do I do to make you love me?
What I got to do to be heard?
What do I do when lightning strikes me?
What have I got to do?
What have I got to do?
When sorry seems to be the hardest word.
Sophie blushed when she saw Mason in front of her. He looked intently at her and went down on his knees as he offered her the bouquet.
"What have I got to do for you to forgive me G?"

I apologize in advance for any grammatical error. I wrote this during lunch break.
I'm thinking about writing about Jason's reaction in the next chapter. Will he give up? :)
