I apologize if my updates have been very erratic. I have been very busy lately with work and I could not find time for writing. However, I am very grateful for all my readers. This story started out as part of my bucketlist. I'm not a writer but I love writing. Thank you for those who have been reading this story so far and I apologize in advance for any grammatical error.
------Mason arrived at Sophie's house by 7pm. He was ushered inside by Sophie's dad and they chatted about basketball while waiting for Sophie.
Sophie didn't know where they were going so she opted for a simple white dress that flared above her knees. She wore a little bit of mascara and a pink lipstick. As she went down, her eyes drifted to where Mason and her father was chatting. Her heart fluttered when she saw Mason wearing a simple shirt with jeans that showed his toned body. He turned towards her and she saw his eyes light up in appreciation when they met hers.
"Hey G. Wow, you look so beautiful!" he exclaimed then reddened when he realized that Sophie's dad muffled a laugh.
"Of course she does Mason. It came from my genes." Sophie's dad teased.
"Thank you." Sophie replied blushing at the compliment.
"Shall we go?" Mason asked.
"Make sure you bring her home by 12." Sophie's dad started to say then shook his head and added. "On another note, just make sure you bring her home or at least text us if she' sleeping over your house." Sophie's dad joked
"Dad!" Sophie exclaimed, embarrassed. She grabbed Mason's hand and pulled him towards the door. "Thank you so much for your concern!" she replied sarcastically.
Her dad just laughed when they left. Mason smiled and teased Sophie. "I think your parents love me!"
"Whatever Mace!" she replied, raising her eyebrows. Mason helped her inside his pick up and went around to the driver's seat.
"Where are we going?" Sophie asked.
"Make a guess."
"Restaurant?"
"No. It's somewhere that you would enjoy."
"Library?"
"Hahaha! I know you would enjoy going there but it's closed."
"Hmm...The National Museum?"
"No way! That would kill me." Mason replied, mimicking someone plunging a knife in his chest.
Sophie laughed," Yeah you would probably die of boredom. I give up. Where are we going?"
"We.." Mason said dramatically and pointing his finger in his chest them at Sophie "are going to watch the NBA All Stars!"
Sophie's mouth opened then closed looking at him, "Oh ok. Wow?" she replied uncertainly.
Mason burst into laughter,"Look at your face Sophie. You look flabbergasted. Hahaha!"
"What the hell, Mason!" Sophie exclaimed, slapping the back of his head in disgust.
"I was just kidding! Oh man. I can't forget that look. It's as though you'll die if you watch professional basketball! Hahaha!"
"So where are we going Mace?"
"To the cinema." he replied suddenly serious. "I owe you a movie. Just the two of us."
Sophie heart thudded at his sudden shy smile. "What movie are we watching?"
"Ummmm, they say fifty shades is good." he replied trying to muffle his laughter.
"NO WAY!!!" Sophie exclaimed in surprise then she saw Mason's shoulder tremble then he burst into laughter.
"You're hilarious G!" he replied, laughing. "It's a joke. How about "Black Panther" he asked suddenly serious.
"I'd love that." she replied as they parked.
Mason got out and opened her door to help her get down from his pick up. They went inside and Mason bought tickets and popcorn and took their seats inside.
Sophie suddenly felt very self-conscious as they took their seats. Mason smiled at her with his boyish and almost shy smile and her heart thudded. He gave her a popcorn as the movie started.
Mason reached for her hands but Sophie pulled it away before it reached her. He looked at her, a little bit disappointed but he just gave her a sad smile while the movie started. Sophie was surprised Mason did not make any comment the whole time. When the movie ended, Sophie started to stand but Mason held her arms and said, "There's an after credit."
"Oh ok. So researched it?"
"Yep. Did you like it?" he asked looking at her sincerely.
"It's a wonderful movie. Thank you!" she replied, smiling at him as they waited for the after credits.
"You're welcome. I had hoped you would enjoy it."
Where do you want to eat?" he asked once they finished watching the after credits. He held her while they got out of the cinema.
"Anywhere just as long as it's not that Japanese restaurant in front." she replied remembering what happened last time.
"Definitely not. No Japanese restaurant this time." he replied looking apologetically at her. "Let's go to the Chinese restaurant on the 3rd floor. You love Chinese food."
Sophie smiled as they went to the restaurant. They ordered food and talked. She was surprised how easy it was talking to him. They talked about their childhood antics what they want to study in college. They talked about her scholarship and his offers from the basketball scouts. She was surprised how much she enjoyed being with him especially without all the drama. They were still laughing when they arrived at her house.
"I enjoy being with you G." Mason said, smiling at her.
"It was a wonderful date Mace." she replied. "Thank you."
"G.."
"Yes?"
"I know I have acted like an ass but remember that... that's not the normal me. The normal me wants to make you happy. Please just give me time to prove it to you?"
"If you want to make me happy Mace. Can you also give me time to think about everything? Everything feels so fast."
"All right G but during that time please remember that I love you." he said earnestly then gave her a shy kiss on her cheek and went inside his car."
