Mason stirred in his sleep, suddenly cold. He peered at the night sky and was disoriented with the sight of the stars above him. Sophie shivered beside him, burrowing into his arms and seeking his heat. His eyes suddenly widened as he turned to Sophie who was obviously cold since she had not changed from her gown which was opened at the back. He slowly extricated himself from Sophie taking special care not to wake her and bundled her using the picnic blanket. He returned the picnic basket to his pick up and returned back to where Sophie was. He watched her for a few minutes, basking at how peaceful and beautiful she looked sleeping. He slowly carried her towards the pick up still wrapped in the blanket.
Sophie stirred and mumbled, "Mace, I'm cold." while wrapping her arms around him. Mace staggered a bit at her action but was able to regain his balance, smiling at her. He slowly deposited her at the passenger seat while he went to the driver side. He made sure he drove carefully so as not to wake her. He parked the car at Sophie's house and quietly went out to open the front door. Sophie was still sleeping inside the car so he carried her to her room and laid her down on her bed but he couldn't extricate himself since Sophie was holding tightly.
"Sophie, I have to go." he said with a lowered voice.
"No, stay. Have to change. Pajama. " Sophie mumbled, raising her arms like a child waiting to be changed.
"Ok fine." Mason replied in surrender. He went to her drawers and took out her pajama set and went to Sophie who was sitting on the bed with arms raised. He looked at her and said, "I'll turn around so you can change."
"I can't. I'm too tired." Sophie replied sleepily.
Mason groaned and went to her, turning her around and trying to avert his gaze as he slowly removed her gown with her back facing him. His hands felt scorched when he touched her back, loving the feel of her smooth skin. He shook himself trying hard to control his emotions. He was able to successfully removed her gown and immediately helped her put on her pajamas. He sighed when she was all dressed up. Sophie pulled him as he turned to go.
"Don't leave. Please stay." She said and pulled him, taking him aback as he lost his balance and landed ungracefully on the bed. Sophie didn't seem to mind as she snuggled into his arms as she finally closed her tired eyes and slept.
Mason was too tired to drive anyway so he kicked off his shoes and pulled her tightly to him, sighing in contentment as he whispered. "I love you so much Sophie." They both drifted peacefully asleep and were woken up by someone knocking at Sophie's door.
"Sophie, it's Yas. Is Mace there? I'm opening the door."
Mason and Sophie just looked at each other, confused and disoriented. Yasmin's eyes widened when she saw Mason and Sophie tangled together on the bed.
"What the hell?! Did you sleep together?" she shouted.
"No!" they replied together.
"I mean, yes, we slept Yas. Just slept. Will you keep it down? Mom and Dad might wake up."
"Well, here's a newsflash for you. They are awake with Mom and Dad downstairs who were worried since Mason didn't go home last night. Do you know that it's 3pm? Where have you two been?" Yasmin said exasperated. "Good thing, this is the first thing we checked and found your pick up outside Mace. Don't you ever disappear and not answer your phone!"
Mason and Sophie reddened at what she said.
"Why the heck didn't you text Yas?" Sophie asked him. "This is so embarrassing!"
"Hey, I was supposed to go home but you dragged me to your bed, remember?"
"Did not."
"Did too."
"That is real mature for both of you! Just shut up already and go downstairs." Yasmin snapped as she turned and went down.
The two meekly followed her downstairs and they saw their parents conversing and drinking coffee.
"So there's the two lovebirds." Mrs. Taylor said. "Don't mind Yas. We knew you were here anyway and we wanted to catch up with Sophie's parents."
"I just hope you both used protection." Mr. Chase said looking at them.
"Dad?!! We didn't do anything. You should get your heads out of the gutter!" Sophie screamed in indignation.
Their parents just laughed and winked at them.
"Calm down Sophie. We were just kidding. I mean look at Mason, he is still wearing his tux. Do you want to eat?" Mrs. Chase asked, looking at Sophie.
"We should be going." Mrs. Taylor said. "It's been nice seeing you again Emma and John. We apologize for the hassle brought about by our son."
Mason reddened at what his mom said. "I'm sorry Mr. and Mrs. Chase. I swear I didn't do anything to Sophie. It was just so late that I fell asleep." He said apologetically.
"No worries young man. You know we trust you." Mr. Chase replied, smiling at his contrite face.
"I'll be going now but is it ok if I take Sophie out later tonight? I promise I'll behave."
"You can take her out anytime you want." Sophie's mom smirked.
"Mom!" Sophie complained. "I certainly have very "protective" parents," she said sarcastically.
"Thank you Ma'am." Mason replied smiling. He leaned forward to Sophie and whispered to her, "See your parents love me. They both know we were meant to be." He winked at her and followed Yasmin and his parents outside. Sophie just raised her eyebrows.
"I'll be going up to take a nap." Sophie's dad said as he went upstairs.
"Do you want to eat Sophie? I'll just heat the lasagna I prepared last night."
Her stomach rumbled in response and her mom laughed. "Mom, I can't believe you're not mad." she said looking at her.
"I checked your room this morning and saw both of you sleeping fully clothed so I realized I had nothing to worry about. I trust both of you. I wonder though why Mason is with you when your date was Jason?" she asked while getting out the lasagna from the fridge and putting it on the microwave.
"It's a long story."
"I have time sweetheart."
"Well, Mason apologized yesterday in a big way. He asked all his team mates to give me flowers with notes apologizing for all the things he did since we were young. Then he proceeded with a song number and gave me a bouquet of flowers saying he was very sorry for everything."
"Wow, that's so romantic. So is he forgiven then?"
"......ummmm.... I don't know mom. What if it's not real and just a spur of the moment? What if he is just apologizing since Jason is dating me and it's just a matter of pride?"
"What is your heart telling you?"
"It's telling me that I want to forgive him but I'm scared. Mason is so volatile and I'm afraid that if I accept him, it will be all or nothing. He is so different from Jason. Jason is like my better half. We are so similar and he doesn't demand anything."
"Sweetheart, are you happier when you're with Jason or with Mason?" Mrs. Chase asked while getting out the lasagna and putting it in front of Sophie, looking at her confused face.
"Darling, in the end it's going to be your choice. No one can force you. You can choose whoever you want. Just remember to be fair and not lead anyone if you're not going to choose them. I love you and know that I am always here to support you." Her mom said, sitting beside her as she started eating.
"In the end, I know it's going to be my choice."
