Of course not!

Of course not!

Of course not!

Of course not!

The words seem to be ricocheting around the room and it was ringing on Sophie's ear. She placed her hands on both of her ears to block the sound but it was echoing everywhere. The words were mocking her.

Sophie leaned against the door, and slowly slid down to the floor, unable to support her weight. She dropped her purse and keys, covered her face and whimpered like a baby. She finally stood up and ran up the stairs into her room. She dropped to her bed and stared at the ceiling trying desperately not to cry again. She was surprised when she saw that her pillow was wet. She reached for her face and was shocked to feel tears falling.

I shouldn't be so torn. I knew he didn't like me. We were supposed to be enemies but he kept giving mixed signals and I thought he felt the same way as I did. I guess that was just plain stupid. Ha! And people thought she was a genius.

She eventually decided that it was better that she knew how he felt. Not knowing was far worse and maybe, it had always been a one-sided affair. It was better that everything was clear. At least now she knew that she could move on and that it was probably time to date other boys. Mason had been so protective of her and she had relied on this and unknowingly thought that this was because they will always be together.

They played pranks against each other and had teased each other mercilessly but they had also done things together. Mason had been to all of Sophie's important events and even attended her academic contests. Sophie had also been to all Mason's games, be it a championship game or just a practice game. She was even given a specific seat in any of his games and all his team mates knew that Mason always has a plus one. It was stupid but her world revolved around Mason and she felt as though everything was snatched in front of her when he said that he didn't like her.

Sophie glanced at her phone uncomprehendingly, still lost in her emotions. It was vibrating and saw Jason calling her. It took her a few minutes but she eventually answered the call.

"Hi Sophie! I just wanted to make sure you're ok." Jason said, his tone worried.

"Ummm, I'm ok." her voice broken trying to control her tears and she was sniffing.

"Just stay put, I'll be there in 10minutes."

Sophie's eye widened at what Jason said but was not able to give a reply since he ended the call. The doorbell rang after 10 minutes and she rushed to the bathroom to wash her face and went down to open the door.

"Hi Sophie!" Jason said giving her a concerned look. Her face was pale and her eyes were puffy from crying. He grabbed her and gave her a fierce hug. The tears that Sophie was trying bravely to stop began to fall again and she buried her face in Jason's chest, crying her heart out. Jason was rubbing Sophie's back tenderly, trying to give her comfort. They sat down on the couch with Sophie half lying on top of Jason.

Sophie was not sure how much time has passed but she felt comforted by the warmth of Jason's body. Emotionally exhausted, she felt her eyes drooping. Unable to keep her eyes open, she drifted off to sleep.

Jason noticed that her breath became regular and looked down to see her sleeping peacefully. Her breathing was slow and steady but you can still see the puffiness around her eyes. Jason smiled and traced her face with his fingers, appreciating her beauty. He angled himself on the couch so that he could rest his head on the back of the couch and moved Sophie so that she was lying on the couch while he was holding her.

When Sophie awoke, she was surprised to find herself draped all over Jason on the couch. She slowly raised her head and she saw Jason sleeping peacefully, his head on the back of the couch, his arms lying on her tummy, holding her to him. She was embarrassed by her outburst considering that she didn't even know Jason that well. She studied his face and saw how handsome he is. His dark hair tended toward curly and was messy as though he had run his hands through them. He was broad-shouldered and she can see that his stomach was flat and could feel his abs. She can also smell his musky scent. God, he smelled good. She raised her head and saw his dark lashes. He had lashes that girls would probably kill for.

"Are you done appreciating my wonderful self?" Jason asked, opening his eyes and smiling teasingly. He felt her move a while ago and knew she was studying him.

Sophie shrieked and fell gracelessly down the couch. Jason grabbed her and laughed at how she looked.

"Don't worry, I'm used to girls falling for me." he said, laughing at her.

Sophie gasped, looking at him in indignation. He was smiling at her and she saw the twinkle in his eyes. It made him look endearingly handsome and boyish at the same time. He pulled her up and patted at the seat next to him. She smiled back and sat down.

"Care to tell me what happened?" he asked her turning serious and looking at her in concern.

"I'm sorry. I was just being dramatic and stupid. I thought Mace liked me and it turned out he didn't. I was kind of pathetic." she said, angrily wiping at the tears that were starting to fall. "I knew we fight all the time but we had always been together. He was always there for me. He took care of me and I took care of him but I guess that's just the way it is. I mean, just because I realized that I love him doesn't mean that he feels the same way, right?"

Sophie looked at Jason, smiling at him sadly. "I guess it doesn't matter now. I mean we were also too different. I love books. He hates books. He couldn't even read a book without pictures. Ha! He could definitely play as Gaston in Beauty and the Beast!"

Sophie was beginning to get angry and started to raise his voice. "He loves sports. I can barely tolerate it except when he plays. We even liked different music and movies. He even hates science fiction! I mean how can he hate that! It's a sin!"

Jason gave a bark of laughter and rumpled her hair, "I know, right! It's impossible to hate science fiction. I bet he also hates physics and math."

"YES, he does!" she replied feelingly. Jason smiled at her and took her hand. "Remember when I told you that I wanted to pretend to be your boyfriend so that Mason will get jealous?"

"Yes..." Sophie replied, looking into his eyes.

"I don't want to pretend to be your boyfriend. I really like you Sophie. You are intelligent, funny and I enjoy being with you. I know you are hurting right now but it's not always like that. Can you give me a chance to court you?" Jason asked, his face reddening. He had never courted girls. They were always running after him but he quickly lost interest in them. This was the first time he had ever been serious and his heart was thudding nervously.

Sophie blushed prettily and looked at Jason's earnest face. Her face brightened and she gave him a shy smile.

"Yes, I'd like that."
