Sophie sighed contentedly and opened one sleepy eye and stared confusedly at the chest she was using as her pillow. Her eyes widened as she realized that she was draped on top of Mason, her cheeks pressed on his chest, their legs tangling.
She tried to extricate herself but the arms around her tightened. She glanced up and her heart started to hammer when she saw Mason sleeping peacefully beside her.
He was more handsome asleep, she thought, his hair rumpled and his lips soft. Her breath hitched and thought he looked like the old Greek sculptures. No wonder girls flock around him. He also took care of his body with his broad shoulders and abs that girls in his class had been whispering about.
She raised her hands and traced his eyes and felt the stubbles in his chin. She brought her fingers to his lips, curious if it was as soft as it looked. Mason sighed and opened his eyes and her hands froze. His eyes turned to her and visibly darkened. She felt as though she was about to melt at the depths of his brown eyes and could not pull her eyes from his hypnotic gaze.
"Sophie-" Mason groaned and raised his hands stroking her cheeks then curving to her nape, pulling her as he captured her lips. His mouth slanted over hers hesitantly at first but grew bolder when he felt her respond. He pulled her down and gently coaxed her lips to open, touching his tongue to her trembling lips.
She opened her mouth to welcome him and when they did, the kiss deepened and she clung tighter to him, her hands tangling in his soft hair pulling him closer, suddenly lost in a sea of pure sensation. Their lips locked in a passionate kiss and their tongues filling each other. His hands shifted to her back pulling her tighter, moulding her soft body to his as though they were perfectly meant to fit each other.
The knocking at the door suddenly invaded their senses and they drew guiltily away. The door opened and they both looked rumpled as Yasmin entered the door looking at them, curiously noting the blush suffusing Sophie's cheeks and Mason's messy hair.
"Uh-oh have you guys been naughty!" Yasmin teased, laughing when they both reddened."Sorry to wake you up but we need to get ready for school. Don't worry Sophie, I dropped by your house last night to let your mom know that you were sleeping over. She gave me your things and said you should probably remove your contacts at night but you were sleeping when I arrived so maybe you should just wear glasses today."
Sophie grabbed her things and murmured thank you and mentioned that she will be taking a bath downstairs and hurriedly left the room.
"That was fast," Yasmin observed then turned to Mason. "So what happened Mace?"
"Nothing happened." Mason replied defensively.
"Uh huh, you both looked guilty." Yasmin said playfully then proceeded to say distastefully. "Anyway, Marissa called and asked if you would like to go out later after your game?"
"Huh? I'll talk to her later."
"Oh, by the way Mace, Jason also asked about Sophie. They were supposed to go out on a date last night." she said snidely as she left.
Mason stiffened at what she said. He could not believe that Sophie even thought about going out with Jason. His heart constricted at the thought of Jason and Sophie together. He grabbed his things and proceeded to take a bath.
Sophie waited for Yasmin and Mason downstairs and heard her phone ring while Mason was going down the stairs. She pulled it out of her pocket and saw Jason's name flashing.
"Hi Jason! Good morning," she said and awkwardly went outside when she saw Mason narrowing his eyes when he heard her say Jason's name.
"Hi Sophie! Good morning! I was thinking that maybe we can go out later. You stood me up yesterday." he said, teasing her.
"Umm, sorry about that. It was an emergency. Mace has a game later so maybe we can go out after the game?" she replied, feeling uncertain.
"Sure, I also have football practice, how about I pick you up around 7?"
"Okay." Sophie replied, feeling a sense of foreboding with this.
"Great, see you later Sophie. Bye." Jason said cheerfully.
"Was that Jason?" Mason asked, his eyes darkening in anger.
Sophie uttered a yelp, startled to see Mason.
"Were you eavesdropping?" She asked in annoyance.
"Are you avoiding my question?!" He replied back with hostility.
"Fine, that was Jason. He asked me out!" she said insolently.
"Are you CRAZY?!! Why are you going out with that man-whore? He is so out of your league!" he said, his eyes blazing in fury.
"How dare you lecture me?! You agreed to take Marissa to the prom! That b*tch has probably slept with the whole basketball and football varsity team combined!" she replied matching his fury.
"Oh my God! Why are you two shouting at each other?" Yasmin exclaimed. "Geez, our neighbors are still asleep. Please calm down. Let's go to school. I'll accompany Sophie, Mason."
"Fine!" Mason said and stiffly walked towards his car.
"Why are you fighting again Sophie?" Yasmin asked when they got inside the car.
"Jason asked me out and Mason felt the need to lecture me. Of all the arrogant things!" Sophie said irritably. "He is such a hypocrite considering that he agreed to go to the prom with Marissa!"
"Oh, right and he's probably be going out with Marissa after the game." Yasmin said cheerfully.
"WHAT?! Did he ask her out." Sophie replied her hands gripping the steering wheel.
"No, but Marissa asked him out. Why are you so affected? You're going out with Jason later." Yasmin pointed out, giving her a smirk.
"I'm not affected." Sophie replied, her stomach tightening at the thought of Mason and Marissa together.
They drove in silence after that as Sophie tried to dull the ache that came with the thought of Mason with another woman.
