Lucas' P.O.V
I knew that this day would come eventually, that one day I would face my uncle, that I would fight for everything he once stole from my own father; but I never imagined that to do that I would have to fight my own pack, that my closest friends those whom I had grew up with would betray me and now pose as my enemies or that the life of my mother, my sister and my mate would be on the line. I attacked every single wolf that tried to harm Braden's pack whether they were rouges or part of my former pack. I still couldn't believe that my friends had sided with my uncle, the same man that had killed their Alpha years ago, then again they had been so brainwashed by the empty promises of power my uncle had made them, how else would they endure all that pain inflicted by being under his regimen, I feared those innocent souls, such as the ones like my sister's and the youngest members of the pack, for they would be victims of Kiev's wrath, tonight some of them would die in the battlefield or have a love one lost. I knew that there was no turning point from here, either my uncle, Kiev or I would die but by tomorrow's sunrise only one of us would be alive; the battle went on for minutes although it felt like eternal hours that never ceased to end, I couldn't tell if it was because of the low number of casualties or the fact that slowly we were realizing just how badly we were outnumbered.
I was lost in my thoughts, fighting as I was fueled up by all that rage and incompetence I had felt throughout these years, I was compensating for all those times I had stood by and let my uncle walk over me, over my family. I heard a loud explosion that snapped me back into reality, I looked around worried already fearing the worse, I knew exactly what had caused an explosion like this, Dawn had been working on this prototype for days now, she had created a bomb, a grenade of some sorts with a special mixture of wolfsbane and moon-silver that was so concentrated it would be deadly for any werewolf, it was brilliant although the only set back was that the range was so large that even the person who used it would be caught in the fire getting injured as well, and if Dawn had used this it only meant that things were really bad for her and she had only used this as her last resource.
I looked around frenetically until I caught a glimpse of Dawn, she was headed towards the outline of the forest, several wolves hot on her trail, Cassandra was among them, although Dawn was quite ahead of them she was still in her human form as she never shifted and if she did no one would ever see her, but it was only a matter of time before they would catch up to her. Both Alpha Max, his wife and Braden were fighting off the wolves with success so I quickly took this chance to go after Dawn and aid her. I raced off to the woods and found Dawn in the secluded part of the area, she stood there in clear view, her body shaking with anticipation, her dark hair was an untamable mess, her cheeks were flushed and that wild look in her eyes not only did it make her look more attractive, an exotic beauty but it also warned as well that she was someone to not mess with but to fear.
'I'm so sorry Luca, this wasn't how I wanted you to find out.' Dawn's voice echoed throughout my head for the first time ever thanks to our mind link, and although her voice was sweet it was laced with complete fear.
I frowned at her confused but before I could even ask Dawn what she meant by that she shifted for the first time ever before me.
Just like her mother Dawn had lines that started to swirl and intertwined around her but instead of being silver like her mom's they were purple almost blue, and even her eyes started to low in the same shade, and then she was gone, Dawn no longer stood in front of me, in her place there was a large white fox, not a wolf but a fox.
I stood there in awe, confused for this, but now it all made sense. I knew that my uncle had been right, it was her. Dawn snarled and lunged at me, I barely had time to duck before I heard some bones snapping, I turned around and saw how Dawn caught Cassandra, and with a final bite snapped her neck killing her, a distant howl of rage was heard and I knew my uncle was aware of Cassandra's death, but if Dawn had not killed Cass, she would have killed me, she was trying to sneak up on me to kill me, she wasn't after Dawn but after me.
I heard a snarl and soon saw how Alex lunged at Dawn but before she or I could do something about it Dave took Alex down, the same Dave that had once sided with my uncle when they had kicked me out of the pack. I tried to get Dave but he took a step back refusing to fight me.
'Relax man, we're with you." Dave said in his defense.
'Why do we share a mind link if I'm no longer part of the pack?' I asked confused, was this a simple distraction?
'That's because we never claimed loyalty to your uncle, you are the only alpha here." Dave told me.
'We? Who is we?' I asked confused.
'Lance, Owen, Jackson, Derrick, Steve, Alicia and Victoria are here, we are here to help you get the pack, you will be the Alpha.' Dave told me before he looked around, as if listening to someone in the distance.
'What is it?' I asked him.
Dave met my gaze.
'Lucas, your mom is here.' Dave informed me.
I looked back at Dawn who got near me, she snuggled against my chest before she met my gaze.
'Go, I'll be fine.' Dawn urged me as the triplets showed up looking for her.
I raced to the battlefield as fast as I could but even then, I knew I wouldn't get there in time, and as I got there I realized that I was right.
By the time I got there Kiev had already injured my mum, clawing into her chest, I only saw red as I headed towards my uncle, Dawn soon caught up with me, and now side by side we strolled towards Kiev, who amused by my mother's attempts to free herself did not notice that we now approached him. Dawn tackled him down while I finished him off, I didn't even bother to see his lifeless body to get the satisfaction I needed, instead I shifted back to my human form and cradled my mum in my arms.
I did not know any medical terms or conditions but I was no fool, I knew that my mum wasn't going to survive this, especially since after my dad's death her wolf had weaken.
"Mom, why, you should've stayed back." I said with tears in my eyes as I softly grabbed her face, most of her body was already smeared with blood.
"That man took away my husband, he claimed to be your sister's father when he never was and he never would be, he drove our family apart and I wasn't going to let him take you away from me as well." My mum said meeting my gaze as she caressed my cheek.
I felt a blanket being draped over us, covering both my body and my mum's, it was Dawn who now wore an oversized shirt, I knew it was for modesty, for my mum at least.
"Mom, you need to stay strong, this isn't it for you." I said trying to fight off the tears with no success.
"We both know it's not going to be like that, but I think this if for the best, for years I had wished nothing but to see your father again, to be with him. I can no go I peace honey knowing that you've found a mate that you love and cherish just as much as she loves and cherishes you; I need you to take Lily in, be a real family for her, show her how real parents and a true pack should be. But most important, promise me Lucas, promise me that you will find her, you must find Thalia." My mum said before she murmured a weak 'I love you' and her eyes closed, she shut her eyes and never opened them again.
I silently cried holding her now lifeless body against mine, Dawn hugged me tightly spoke.
"It's over Lucas, it's finally over." Dawn said as she cried as well, but she was wrong.
This, this was only the beginning.
