Chapter 17- Truth or Dare

As we're walking to the beach, I notice Anna and Matt walking with each other.
I look at Chase and see him and Ryan walking with each other.
Ashley is walking right behind Jace and I, and I can feel her eyes on me.
Jace's phone starts ringing, and he answers it quickly.
"Hello?"
I hear faint voices on the other end, but I can't hear it clearly.
"I don't know if I can make it tonight." He says.
I look at him, and he looks back at me.
"I'll see what I can do." He says, and then he hangs up.
"Everything okay?" I ask him.
"Yeah. Nothing to worry about."
I keep looking at him, and he gives me a quick nod.

We find a place to sit on the beach, and all sit in a circle.
"Truth or dare?" Matt asks.
"Sure." Everyone says.
"Anna, truth or dare?" Matt asks.
"Truth."
"Are you single?" He asks.
"Yeah." She says.
I quickly look at her, and she looks back at me.
I raise my eyebrows to her, and she nods at me letting me know that she'll tell me later.
"My turn!" Ashley yells.
"Chase, truth or dare?" She asks.
"Truth."
"Do you have a girlfriend?"
"Uh, no." He says.
"Great." She says with a smile on her face.
"Oh good lord." Ryan says while rolling his eyes.
"Shut up Ryan, this is probably why you don't have a boyfriend- you're annoying." Ashley says while glaring at Ryan.

Ryan looks at her and says, "You should try opening books instead of your legs."

Everyone starts laughing, and Ashley just rolls her eyes.

We've been sitting and talking for a while now, and Anna is still talking to Matt.
"Anna, can I talk to you?" I ask
She looks at Matt, and he nods.
We walk away from everyone, and I look at her waiting to explain.
She sighs, "Noah and I broke up."
"What? When did this happen?"
"A couple of weeks ago, I was too upset to say anything." She says while looking down.
"You could've talked to me." I say.
"I know, I'm sorry."
It's quiet for a while, until she says something,
"Then I met Matt, and he's really sweet and makes me happy."
"So, you like him?" I ask.
"Yeah."
"Well, if he makes you happy, then I'm happy." I say.
She smiles at me, then hugs me.
"Why did you guys break up anyway?" I ask.
"He's moving, and he didn't want a long distance relationship."
"I'm sorry."
"It's okay. Mind if I go hang out with Matt?" She asks.
I nod, "Go ahead."

I watch her go to Matt, and I see Jace walking up to me.
"Hey." He says.
"Hey."
"You're friend Ryan keeps following me and taking selfies with me." He says while looking back to Ryan.
I look at him, and start laughing, and then his phone starts ringing.
He sighs, and then answers it.
"Hello?"
I hear low voices, but not clearly.
"I'm busy right now." Jace says.
He looks at me, and sighs, "I'll be there soon."
"Everything okay?" I ask.
"Yeah, I just have to go somewhere."
"Where?"
"Don't worry about it." He says.
I'm about to say something, but he walks away and gets in his car.
