Chapter 35- Karma

"You have no food here." Anna says while sitting on my couch.
I nod, "I know, I'm about to go grocery shopping."
She stands up, "I'll come."
I nod, and we go to her car.

"Lets buy these." I says while holding up a bag of chips.
She sighs, "I thought you were on a diet?"
"It's my cheat day." I say.

"Aspen, you said it was your 'cheat day' yesterday."
"Well do you want to watch movies while eating a salad?" I ask her.
She looks at the chips in my hands, "Good point."
"I'm gonna go get some candy." Anna says as she walks towards the candy aisle.
"Get me some!" I yell to her.

I put some drinks in the cart, and I start to feel like someone's watching me.
I put the drinks down, and look behind me.

I see Ashley and Ryder watching me, and Ashley has a smirk on her face.
"Do you need something?" I ask.
She rolls her eyes, "Why would I need something from you?"
"Well for starters, you're watching me from down the aisle."

"Karma's a bitch, and I can't wait to see it happen to you."
I sigh, "Let me guess, this is all because Jace and I are dating?" I ask.
She ignores my question, and I glance at Ryder.
His eyes are full of hatred and anger.
I watch as Ashley and Ryder walk away, and I turn back around.

I see Anna holding all of her candy, and she looks nervous.
"What just happened?" She asks.
"I'll explain later, let's just go."

My phone starts ringing, and Anna hands it to me.

"Hey Jace." I say.
"Hey, what're you doing?"
"Anna and I are just hanging out."
He sighs, "I'm sorry I couldn't hangout with you today, I had to finish some papers."
"It's okay." I say.
"I got to go, I'll pick you up for the beach party tomorrow."
"Okay, bye."
"Bye."

I hang up, and look at Anna.
"I totally forgot about the beach party." I say.
"I did too." Anna says.
"Wanna go shopping tomorrow? I need a new swimsuit."
She nods, and then we go to bed.

Anna parks at our apartment complex, and we got out of the car.
"I'm obsessed with our new swim suits." Anna says.
"Yes! They're so cute!" I say.
I pull out my keys, and start unlocking my door.
"Ryan might be mad that we went shopping without him ." Anna says.
I laugh, "He definitely will."

I walk in and turn on the light.
I scream when I see Ashley standing near my hallway.
"What the hell are you doing here?!" I yell.
My heart is beating like crazy, and I see her smirking.

She points behind me, and I look at where she's pointing.
I turn around slowly, and I see Ryder holding Anna by the wrists.
I look down at his hand, and see a knife near Anna's stomach.

I face Ashley again, and she's smiling at me.
"Why are you doing this?!" I yell at her.
"Because I want Jace."
"You're crazy!" I yell.
"You ruined everything for me! I was suppose to be Jace's girlfriend!" She yells.
I keep looking at her, and she continues.
"He was starting to like me, I know he was. And then you walked into his life." She says while glaring at me.
"You took him away from me!" She yells.

"Having someone hold a knife up to my friend, isn't going to make him fall in love with you!" I yell at her.

"You're right, it's not." She says.
I look back at Anna, and her eyes are full of fear.

"But, it will make you dump Jace." Ashley says.

"What?" I ask.
"When you dump Jace, you guys will never talk again. You'll be out of his life, and I'll be back in it." She says.
"I'm not dumping Jace." I say while looking in her eyes.

She laughs, "Well if you don't, Anna is gonna have that knife going right through her stomach."

I look back at Anna, and see her crying.
I look at the knife in Ryder's hand, and he cuts her on her hip.

"Stop!" I yell at him.
"He'll stop once you say that you'll dump Jace." Ashely says.

I hear Anna screaming in pain as he cuts her again.
"Okay! I'll dump Jace! Just let Anna go!"

Ryder pushes Anna towards me, and she lands in my arms.

"Get the fuck out!" I yell at Ryder and Ashley.
She laughs, "I'm not leaving until you break up with him."

I hear a car door shut, and Ashley walks over to the window.
"And now is the perfect time." She says.
I bring Anna to the kitchen, and put her in the chair.

I quickly wet a towel rag, and put it on her cut.
The doorbell rings, and I look at Ashley.
"Answer it." She says quietly.

I look back at Anna, and hand her the towel rag.
"It's okay, I'll be right back." I say.

I walk towards the door, and Ryder walks behind me.

Ryder stands behind me, and puts the knife against my back.
"Say something, and he'll stab you." Ashely says.
I nod, and open the door.

"Hey gorgeous." Jace says while smiling at me.
"Hi."
"Why aren't you in your swimsuit?" He asks.
"I'm not going." I say.
"Why not? Are you okay? Are you sick?" He asks.
"I'm fine."
"So, what's wrong?" He asks.

I feel Ryder put the knife closer to my back, and I clench my jaw.

"I'm breaking up with you."

Jace's mouth opens, but no words come out.
I see him clench his jaw, "Why?" He asks.
My heart starts beating louder, and I look down.

Jace puts his hands on my chin, and lifts my head back up.
I look into his eyes, and he's looking at me with concern.

Tears start running down my face, and Jace leans in to hug me.
Ryder pushes the knife on my back, and I shove Jace away quickly.

"What's going on?" Jace asks.
"We're over." I say while tears run down my face.
"Aspen-"
"Please, just go." I say while crying.
"Babe-"
"Just go!" I yell.

He looks at me one last time, and walks away.
I shut the door, and watch Jace leave through my window.

I watch as he slams his car door shut, and drives away.

Ryder removes the knife from my back, and walks over towards Ashely.

"Don't even think about telling the police or Jace about this, because I will find out. And someone will get hurt." She says.

She's about to walk out, but she looks at me again and says one last thing,

"And if I see you with Jace, I'll make sure you get hurt."
