Chapter 32- Taking Sides

I wake up in Jace's arms, and I look at myself in his bedroom mirror.
My hair is a mess, and I still have mascara smears on my face.

Needless to say, I look like shrek's long lost twin..

I'm about to get up, but Jace pulls me back down.
"Stay here.." he says as he looks at me.
"I have to go home, I have college stuff I need to finish." I say.
He sits up, "I'll drive you there."
I nod, and walk out.
We walk to his car, and he opens the door for me.

"I need to ask you something, it's been bugging me lately.." he says while focusing on the road.
"What is it?" I ask.
"How do you know Ryder? We're you guys friends or something?"
I sigh, "He's my ex boyfriend, and he's a total dick."
"What happened between you two?"
I hesitate before telling him the truth, but I decide that it's time to tell him.

"He abused me."
Jace slams on the breaks, and pulls over to the side of the road.
"What?!"
I look down at my hands, and I hear Jace sighing.
"How come you never told me?" He asks.
"I didn't know how."
He starts the car, and we drive towards my apartment.
"Bye." I say as I get out of the car.

I quickly walk in, and look out my window.
Jace is already gone, and I close my eyes and sigh.
I turn around, and look down at my phone.

"So, how was your night?" A voice asks.
I scream and jump back, and my heart is beating right out of my chest.

I look at Ryan as he sits on my couch and eats my ice cream.

I place my hand over my heart, "What are you doing here?!" I ask while trying to catch my breath.
"Because I'm nosy, and I want to know what happened last night." He says.

"Nothing happened." I say.
"The mascara all over your face says otherwise."
I keep looking at him, and he eats another scoop of ice cream.
"Why were you crying?" He asks.

"I told Jace about Lizzie."
He stops scooping his ice cream, and looks up at me.
"Oh."
"Yeah.." I say.
"Are you okay?" He asks.
I nod, "I feel fine, actually."

"By the way, you're kinda running low on food." He says.
I look at the ice cream in his hands, "I wonder why.." I say sarcastically.

"Did you already finish your essay?" I ask.
He nods, "It was pretty easy."
"Well, I'm gonna go work on mine." I say as I walk to my room.
Ryan gets up, and follows me in my room.

"So how was your night, besides the whole Lizzie thing?" He asks.
I nod, "Good. I'm not sure if he's mad at me or not?"
"What happened?" He asks.
"Well-"
"Wait!" Ryan interrupts, "Tell Anna and Chase to come over. I'd hate for them to miss out on this juicy gossip." He says.

"Okay, now you can say what happened." Ryan says.
I look at Anna and Chase, and nod.

"Okay, he was driving me home and he asked how I knew Ryder. I told him he was my ex and that he abused me. Jace got upset that no one ever told him." I say.

They all stay silent, and look at me.
"What?" I ask.
"I mean I get why he's upset, but I also get why you didn't tell him." Chase says.
I nod, "I didn't know how to bring it up."

"But they just started dating, she probably wasn't ready to tell him." Anna says.
"True, but it would be nice to know that someone you know, used to abuse your girlfriend." Chase says.

Anna and Chase start taking sides, and making points.
"What do you think?" They both ask Ryan.
"Don't drag me into this!" He says.
They all start talking loudly, and my phone starts ringing.

There's no chance that they'll be quiet, so I go in the other room and answer my phone.

After I hang up the phone, I walk out and go to where my friends are.
They're still fighting over who is right, and who is wrong.

"Guys." I say.
They can't hear me over their loud voices.
"Guys!" I say again.
They all get quiet and look at me.

"Jace got arrested."
