Chapter 20- I Need Answers

After Jace left with Ashley, I decide that it's time I found out answers.
I walk towards Matt and Anna, and they're standing near the tables.
"Hey Matt. Do you mind if I talk to you for a second?" I ask him.
He looks at Anna, and she nods.
"Sure."
We walk away from everyone else, and I start asking him my questions.
"Um, do you know why Jace keeps leaving?" I ask.
"What do you mean?"
"You know, like when he gets a phone call he always leaves." I say.
He nods, and looks down.
"Uh," he says while running his hands through his hair, "it's not my place to tell you. I'm sorry." He says.
I nod, "I understand."
He smiles at me, and walks back to Anna.

I'm woken up by the sound of my phone buzzing.
I pick it up, and see Jace's name.
"We need to be at work today to finish paper work."- Jace.
I put my phone down and groan, this is such last minute.
I check the time, and it's 7:30am, and I have to be at work by 8:00am.
I hurry and put my hair in a braid, and put on my black skinny jeans, black heels and my white blouse.
I don't have time to do any makeup, but I hurry and put on a little mascara.

By the time I run out of my apartment, I get a taxi at 7:50am.
As I sit in the backseat of the taxi, I look out the window. I'm about to look the other way, when something catches my eye.
I see Ashley and Jace walking out of a cafe together.

Ashley has a huge stupid grin on her face, and it makes me sick.

I get in the office at 7:56am, and Jace isn't here yet.
I roll my eyes, and start the paper work.
The office door opens, and I see Jace and Ashley laughing.
She looks at me, and her smile goes away.
She looks back to Jace, "I'll see you later tonight."
"Yeah." He says.
I clench my jaw, and focus on my work.
"Bye Jace." Ashley says as she smiles and walks out the door.
Jace closes the door, and sits at his desk.
"So, where are you going tonight?" I ask.
"Just hanging out with some friends." He says.
I sigh, and walk over to his desk.
"You know, I saw you and Ashley together at the cafe." I say.
"Yeah." He says while looking at me.
"Why did you pick me to be your 'fake girlfriend'?" I ask.
"Woah, where is this all coming from?"
"The public probably thinks you guys are a couple. You guys are always together. You guys seem more like a couple than us." I say.
"She's my best friend."
"Oh. My. God. Are you that stupid?" I ask.
"Excuse me?"
"How can you not see that she likes you?!"
"What? No, she's like my sister." He says.
"And does she know that?" I say with my arms crossed.
"Aspen, why are you acting like this?"
"Well for starters, you never tell me where you and your best friend always go. Secondly, you always ditch me because Ashley needs you!" I say.
"When have I ever ditched you?" He asks.
"Last night. We were dancing together, and Ashley needed you. So you left me alone in the middle of the dance floor." I say.
He sighs, "I'm sorry about that."
I don't answer, I just look at him.
"If you're done with the paperwork you can go home early." He says.
I nod and gather my things, and walk out.

"Why won't he tell you where he's going?" Chase asks me after I tell him about everything.
"I don't know, but I need to find out- it's driving me crazy not knowing." I say.
"And you said Ashley posted a picture with him at some place?" He asks.
"Yeah why?"
"Let me see your phone." He says.
I hand him my phone, and he goes to Ashley's profile.
He pulls up the photo, and clicks the location,
and an address pops up.
"See. That must be where Jace and Ashely always head off to."
I look at the address,
"How did I not think of this?"
"Do you know when they're going there again?" He asks.
"Yeah, tonight." I say.
"Well maybe we should all go down there." Chase says.
"You're right." I say.
I get my phone and text Ryan and Anna to meet me at my apartment at 9:00pm.

"So where exactly are we going?" Anna asks me as I drive her car.
"That's what I'd like to know as well." Ryan says in the backseat.
"Chase can you explain it to them?" I ask
"Yeah. Jace and Ashely are always leaving and going somewhere together. Jace never tells Aspen where they're going, so we're finding out tonight." He says.

"I look like crap, I can't be seen by Jace!" Ryan yells.
"Relax, we are going to be in the car the whole time.
Jace won't know that we're here." I say.
"Oh thank god." Ryan says.

"And we're here." I say as I drive to a dark area.
