Chapter eighteen

The days following that call, I avoided all news, magazines and papers. It would kill me to see her back in his arms...those arms...that I had wrapped around me.
I cried every night for weeks, how could he use me like that?, and if so...I didn't think he was like that...how wrong can someone be??
He had tried to ring my mobile a few times, but I could not bring myself to answer...I wasn't strong enough.
One Friday night, Anna turned up at the flat with Jason. Their relationship was going from strength to strength, I was soooooo happy for her.
She'd quit her crappy job...and was now a trainee nursery nurse support worker, and virtually living with Jason by now.
His local appartment overlooked the bustling city and was beautifully decorated throughout...well of course...he'd done it himself!

"Hey you!" I rose from my chair and gave Anna a hug. "Why didn't you ring to tell you were coming?! I'd have cleaned up a bit!" I brushed my fingers through my hair...god I looked a fright.
"Hi Jase!" I said pecking him on his bony cheek.
"You....errrr...ok Mel???" Jason looked worried.
"Yeah......." I thought I'd be brave and hide my hurt.
"You aren't though...are you? He said as he placed his hands on both my shoulders and looked me deep in the eye.
That did it....I broke down and slowly sank to the floor...almost in slow motion.
"Oh Babes!" Anna fell to her knees and hugged me...like only best friends know how.
"Shhhhhhh!!!!" She rocked me from side to side...and didn't let me go till I'd composed myself.

"Thank-You!" I sniffed to Jason as he handed me a hot cup of tea.
"I used red top milk....I hope that's ok? The other looked a bit off!" He screwed up his nose.
"Ah yeah..I bought that one yesterday...hadn't got round to throwing the other one out yet." I said as I blew my nose into a mansize tissue.

"Babes.......?" Anna rubbed my shoulder. " this place is definately not how I left it a week ago...and that milk was turning then? I told you to throw it away! You really need to look after yourself babe."

"I've been ok...it just floors me sometimes that's all." I dabbed my eyes on a clean tissue. "I'm in need of some good news bigtime!! I hope you have some." I huffed.

"Well.....we did come baring 'some' good news....but I think it can wait a little...don't you Jase?" Jason looked unsure.
I looked from Anna to Jason back to Anna! "Eh.....What?....What news?" I begged "Tell me!!..."
"Well...me and Jase....are...well we are getting married."
"OH MY GOD!!!" My mouth fell open unable to shut!
"And you weren't gonna tell me!!???" I asked
"Well, we know how upset you are...so we weren't sure..." Jason shrugged his shoulders.
I flung my arms around them both. "Oh My God....I'm so pleased for you....both!!" My eyes lit up. "When? Where?......WHEN?" I laughed.
"It's actually in about a months time." Anna said in an unsure voice awaiting my reaction.
"Where????...London???" I eagerly needed more details!
"It's going to be in Mauritius, on the beach." Explained Jason. "Just close friends and family" he smiled at Anna, they looked so cute together.
"Oh! and before you say anything we are paying for you.....so no arguments!" Insisted Anna.
"Oh My God Mel! I don't know what to say???" I was actually gobsmacked....my bestest friend was marrying Jason Orange from Take That!!
Lady Luck had shone on her at least.
"Andddd?!" Anna teased.
"And????.....there's an and????." I laughed
"I would be honored.....if you Melissa Evans would give me away??" The beaming smile went all across her face.

The happy tears began to flow where the sad ones had been.
Anna's dad had passed away some years ago, and she always promised since then I would be the one to step in.
"Of course I bloody will!!!" I burst into tears hugging them both again.

The wedding preparations slowly slotted into place, my emotions were all over the shop....just like a roller coaster ride.
I knew Gary would be there and I didn't know what reaction I would have when I saw him. We hadn't spoke since that day at Asda.
Anna hung around for a few days after her and Jason had told me their news. I loved out chats and cuddles on the sofa watching 'Corrie'.
She'd even cleaned the flat, made the meals and did the food shopping. She was spoiling me.
A week before her wedding I went with her to her final dress fitting.
Her dress was beautiful....I know everybody says that...it was a designer make and unique.
The soft material swished as she walked from the fitting room.
"Oh My God Anna!!"

Quite plain and simple, yet incredibly delicious, A line style with scalloped edges, sleeveless and pure yumminess.
"You like??" She beamed at me.
"Do I ekk!!!" I beamed back. "I'm so proud of you An" I whimpered
"Oh Babes....Don't cry" she said with half a laugh.
"You look so beautiful babe!" I repeated
"Hey You! Stop crying, your fitting is next and I don't want it getting dripped on." She wagged her finger at me.
My salmon dress was equally perfect, simple and it felt amazing on. I should think so too for the price!
Anna paid in full by card...GULP!

"One week to go Babe" I smiled as we left the boutique. And it would also be a week till I saw my Captain again! I was bricking it!!
