when your friend is a mystery

Hoseok always wondered why Yoongi stayed up so late every single day. And after hearing the faint typing from Yoongi's end of the phone call, he couldn't help but ask the next time they met up what exactly he was doing.

But Hoseok wasn't expecting much from a trust fund kid who seemed to have enough money that he didn't need a job. Hoseok kept on guessing on what Yoongi could be doing... some of them he hoped would not be true.

Somehow, Yoongi had beat him to asking the questions it and fired a question at Hoseok when they settled down with their coffee, "Hoseok, just wondering, what time do you usually go to bed?"

Hoseok blinked a few times, not expecting to be asked a question. "Uhm... usually somewhere around 10:30 to 11:30? Why? Do you really need to compare?"

Yoongi rolled his eyes. "I already know I stay up more than the normal person, so no, I don't need to compare. I run on about four hours of sleep on most nights and stay up for around twenty hours. I'm just surprised I haven't died yet."

"Yoongi, oh God, that's so bad for you health. You really should fix your sleep schedule." Hoseok faintly wondered why he was so overly concerned for Yoongi. Well, he was a friend, so why wouldn't he?

Yoongi looked like he had heard like millions of times in the past month alone. "Can't. Habits and... other things are hard to get around."

"Uh huh... how about you come about an hour later than you normally do, like at nine, maybe? You'd get another hour of sleep. Then again, you couldn't see me anymore so you gotta make your decision wisely." As much as Hoseok wanted to know what the other things were, he also didn't.

Yoongi was silent, having an unreadable expression on his face for a good six seconds. "Then I choose less sleep."

"Oh. Okay." Hoseok shrugged and was satisfied enough, even though he really wanted Yoongi to get more than four hours of sleep a night.

"I'm honestly surprised that you didn't ask me to think twice on it," Yoongi said before sipping his coffee slowly.

"You don't need to think twice about me, though. No one does."

Yoongi choked on his drink. He wasn't totally dying like last time, but Hoseok could feel the irritation radiating off of him. It was almost refreshing to see someone's mood worked up.

Yoongi glared at Hoseok and said with a very raspy voice, "Stop smiling, you idiot."

Hoseok hadn't realized he was smiling. However, he only smiled wider, just for Yoongi.

Then he remembered what he was going to ask him. "Oh, Yoongi--"

"YOOOOOOONNNNGIIII!" A, sadly familiar, voice called out.

Hoseok's face fell and his smile was now replaced with an annoyed frown. It was Taehyung. Of course it was Taehyung. Hoseok's day had been pretty good so far, but it just had to be ruined in the morning hours, because life just loved him.

Hoseok's mind flashed back to his conversation with Jimin the other night, and how he was jealous... was he jealous of Taehyung then? How? Why? It made Hoseok dislike Taehyung even more because he was making Hoseok question his own emotions. He wasn't even sure what exactly he was jealous of, either.

Hoseok sighed and glanced at Yoongi and saw he held about the same expression as himself. It made him feel a little bit better, but not by much.

"Yoongi! Hi! And, oh, hi Hosook." Taehyung smiled and waved at Hoseok enthusiastically.

Hoseok felt his eyebrow twitch. He muttered out quietly. "It's Hoseok."

"Oh, sorry, Hoseok." Taehyung quickly turned his attention to Yoongi. "So, make any progress last night?"

Progress? On what? Was it that thing he was typing?

Yoongi glared death at Taehyung, "Sorta. Now shut up and drink your coffee."

Hoseok wondered why it got Yoongi mad talking about it. Maybe he didn't like what he he was doing? But he didn't have a job... He could think about it another day. Right now, Hoseok had a plan.

"Oh, I forgot to say hi to you, Taeyeon." Hoseok didn't like playing passive-aggressive, but he was pissed, and it was Taehyung, so it was needed. "So, hi." Hoseok whipped out his best smile he could.

It hurt how fake it was.

"It's, uh, actually Taehyung."

"Oh, sorry, Taecyeon."

"Taehyung."

"Taesung. Right."

Hoseok tried not laughing at how annoyed Taehyung looked.

"Tae. Hyung."

"I'm actually older than you, Taeyang."

Hoseok took a quick glance at Yoongi. Yoongi had the tiniest smile of amusement on him. This pleased Hobi greatly.

"Oh my God, are you stupid. TAE. HYUNG. Taehyung."

"Got it! Taehyun."

Taehyung took a deep breath. "Close... Taehyung."

"Tae... won? Taewon?"

Yoongi was laughing silently and subtly by himself, Hoseok noticed. (Hobi ignored that fact that he found his smile incredibly uplifting to his mood.)

Taehyung looked at Hoseok in disbelief. "How can you move farther away from being so close? And you said my name correctly last time... Ugh. Taehyung. It's Taehyung."

Before answering, he took a glance at the clock. Almost time to go, since he had gotten here a little later than usual. He made eye contact with Yoongi and smiled a bit, in a way he hoped the other would understand. Yoongi nodded in return curtly.

Hoseok took that nod as an approval to worsen the situation as he left. Hoseok went and threw his cup away and on his way out, he waved to the other two. "Bye Yoongi! Bye Daehyun!"

He only got a wave from Yoongi.

(Hoseok enjoyed being a little shit sometimes.)
