when you wonder why your days are brighter

Yoongi practically stumbled out the entrance of the building that belonged to BigHit Entertainment, picking at his nails absentmindedly as he walked home. He had just finished the interview he had for BigHit, and his nerves were shot the moment he left the room. Had he really just done that? God, he was regretting it already (and oh boy was the suit very uncomfortable). Before the interview, he was predictably nervous, during the interview Yoongi is pretty sure he managed to bullshit his way through it with smiles and fair amount of lying, but after the interview Yoongi felt like he couldn't function.

The whole was blur, honestly. He barely remember most the details (but he did remember that Sejin was the interviewer's name, thankfully). Yoongi shook his head as he went off to Starbucks even though it was about noon. He needed an extra coffee after doing the interview that basically decided whether he could work with his dream or die under a cardboard box.

Yeah. He needed another coffee.

After waiting in line for only a few minutes (Sooyoung wasn't on shift to tease him, thankfully) he sat down at an empty table for two by a window and contemplated life. He wanted to remember this day, but he also wanted to forget so so badly. Yoongi was tired, hungry, unnerved and overall... probably needed a hug. Wait, no, he doesn't like hugs. When was the last time he got a hug?

Yoongi almost choked on his drink after he asked himself that because he remembered that he had hugged Hoseok a few days ago and while he can't remember if he hugged him back, he found himself not at all minding that fact that he gave Hoseok a hug. Yoongi leaned back in his chair and thought that him not minding hugs for or from Hoseok was oddly comforting.

Yoongi left the Starbucks not fifteen minutes later because he needed to get out of his itchy and probably sweaty suit he somehow managed to find in his closet. His mind was blank the entire time walking home except the thought of relaxing in a t-shirt and jeans for the rest of the day.

Once he did manage to change out of his clothes, he realized that he couldn't exactly laze around all day. He remembered Hoseok mentioning recently that he needed to write a thank you to the interviewer. Well, he already wrote a couple emails, so another one shouldn't be that hard, right? He just had to grovel at their feet and thank them for their time.

Yoongi also read that physical thank you cards were another step toward success, so wrote one of those, too because he isn't messing around. Nope. He finished both of those in around two hours before laying in bed with his dog, his nerves still frying themselves just a bit.

The next day, he was at Starbucks at the normal time as he could on any Wednesday morning. He was still very, very nervous about the state of his (hopefully) new job, so Sooyoung cut him some slack and gave him a free coffee. Yoongi didn't deny it- it was free coffee.

He spotted Hobi engrossed on his phone at a small table and Yoongi smiled a bit. This was normal routine for him as he didn't have to worry about a job interview the same day, so he sat down with that same small smile.

Well, that was big mistake.

Guess who instantly noticed? One Jung Hoseok noticed, obviously.

"Ah, Yoongi! Glad to to see you~ And it looks like you're glad to see me, too, eh?" Hoseok grinned, holding his head up with one hand.

"Oh." Was he glad to see him? "I mean... sure?"

"Aw, so I'm not the reason you're smiling? I'm hurt. I'm being abused in this relationship, aren't it.." Hobi sighed and shook his head, a smile still on his face.

"I-- what? Relationship?" Did Sooyoung manage to get the two dating without him realizing? "Abuse? Hold on. I am glad to see you, I guess," Yoongi trailed off at the end, making his voice quiet for absolutely no reason at all. At least, he thought there was no reason.

Hoseok tilted his head a bit before his smile grew wider (and a dash of pink landed on his face). "I'm kidding, Yoongi. You don't abuse me at all. And I knew you were glad to see me!" Hobi chuckled a bit as he sipped on his coffee, leaning back in his chair now, looking a little proud of himself for getting Yoongi to admit that.

Yoongi wondered why he didn't have a filter on his mouth sometimes. "You're blushing."

It wasn't wrong, Yoongi thought a few seconds after he said that as regret settled in. Hoseok was a little pink, well, pinker than usual?

"E-excuse me?" Hobi stammered, blinking a few times, his face only getting more color.

"Nothing. Never mind. If anyone asks, I never existed. I live in a hole now," Yoongi rambled on more and more things to make his life seem like it never existed, but it wasn't really working.

"You're blushing, too!" Hoseok interrupted in petty retaliation.

"I am not blushing. Blushing is a social construct," Yoongi stuttered back.

"Then you can't say I'm blushing."

"But it's a social construct, so I can say you're blushing."

"I-- fine. I accept I'm blushing, Yoongi. But you have to accept it too!"

"No."

"Yoongi."

"Hoseok," Yoongi mocked, a smile appearing on his face again.

Hoseok shook his head with a large smile. "Oh, Yoongi, you're smiling again!"

Yoongi tried to stop smiling but honestly? Too much effort. "Lies and slander."

"Yooooongiiiiii," Hoseok whined. "Accept yourself! You have a wonderful smile, so you should smile more often."

Oh. Well, this isn't the first time Hoseok has complimented him on his smile, but... Yoongi doesn't know. It's a little different for some reason. "I- okay? Uhm. You have a nice smile, too."

"Ah, really?" Hoseok looked actually embarrassed by that and Yoongi doesn't know to take in that information.

"Uh. Yeah," Yoongi stated like it was obvious. "It.. it makes my day a little better, I guess. It's nice." Yoongi realized there was no going back now.

"Oh. Oh! Really? I'm glad!" Hoseok was definitely blushing but he seemed really happy.

So, Yoongi continued to say most of the thoughts he had on his mind on that early morning. "Well, yeah. You're practically the person I see the most and so whenever I see you it's nice. I don't really have to worry about too much like I usually do. I don't... I don't have many friends so having you as one is really, really great." Yoongi was getting really soft all of a sudden, but he felt happy, so he wasn't one to complain about feeling happy.

"I--wow. I'm flattered. Y'know, despite you always being, like, grumpy and all I do like hanging out with you! You always listen and I just have a good time talking with you. And you have a pretty great collection of memes, so that's a bonus."

Both of them were blushing like crazy now because how often do these two get compliments? Not as often as one might think.

"Ye-yeah." Yoongi blinked a few times, a small smile still somehow on his face. "Wait, don't you have to go? I wouldn't want you to be late."

"Shit, yeah." Hoseok moved to get up and spoke as he did so. "Just remember, Yoongi, you have a wonderful smile so keep on smiling! It's great when people smile, y'know?"

"Yeah. I know," Yoongi replied with a now more relaxed and lazy smile as he watched Hoseok leave.

Oh, yes, Yoongi knows.
