Hoseok didn't realize how stressful it was for him to even think about switching his job, let alone make an effort to do so. Hell, he had lost sleep over it. It wasn't even that big of a deal, right? He was just switching jobs, or trying to, since that's what normal people do, right? They move onto bigger things.
Walking into Starbucks the next morning partially felt like a mistake with irony nicely on top. He was hella tired, but Starbucks had caffeine, the one thing Hoseok desperately needed right now. Yeah, he took the day off from work and put Jimin in charge so he could crank down on actually finding a job, but the morning is the morning, and the morning has Yoongi, so it really shouldn't be all that bad.
It had been Yoongi who showed up first. When Hoseok sat down and made eye contact with Yoongi, he almost laughed. It was like Yoongi and Hoseok traded spots for a day, because as tired as Hoseok was, he could tell the other was wide awake and had gotten more than five hours of sleep. Hoseok wasn't entire sure what that meant yet, so he just went about his normal routine.
"Hello, Yoongi!" he said, internally sighing as his voice sounded like he was sick. No, no, he was just tired.
Yoongi clicked his tongue, "Hi, Hobi."
Oh, God. Hoseok could feel the judgement in Yoongi's unamused stare. It was because he was tired, wasn't it? But why did Yoongi seem to care so much? Or look so disappointed in him? "Uh. Hi."
Yoongi squinted at him. "Are you okay? You look a little... tired. I've never actually seen you tired before."
Oh. Well, that was a first. Wow, Yoongi asked him if he was okay? It was odd... but it also wasn't, if that had made any sense. Hoseok should really stop confusing himself. "I, uh, yeah. I'm tired. Didn't get too much sleep last night," he said sheepishly, letting out an awkward laugh at the end.
Yoongi's eyebrows shot up. "Oh? How come?"
"I'm kind of stressed? I think?" Hoseok said, more like asked. He sighed. "I'm thinking of quitting my job but I just... I dunno." Hoseok stirred his straw around in his cup, frowning.
"You want to quit your job? I thought you really liked it," Yoongi commented, pouting just slightly as he did so. "I hope you didn't quit your job just so you could spend more time in the morning with me. That's not... that's just no."
Hoseok let out a puff of laughter. "No, I didn't quit for you. I quit more for myself." Hoseok then made eye contact with Yoongi, fully showing on his face how uncertain he was about his circumstance. "Trust me, I love it there, I really do, but I want more, y'know? I feel like I can't get what I really want where I'm at right now." Hoseok let out a disbelieving laugh. "It's so cliche, but I guess that's gotta happen."
Yoongi nodded while listening, pursing his lips in thought for a moment. It tripped Hoseok up once again seeing the man fully awake and functioning. He wasn't used to it, that's for sure, but he liked it. "Yeah," Yoongi started off, "I get it. But if you feel like you want to do whatever you want to do, then just... do it. Once you actually start something it gets easier to finish."
Another surprise, Hoseok noted. Yoongi giving him life advice at seven-something in the morning. "I... thanks. But, ugh, I'm really conflicted. Because what if I don't like it wherever I end up? I don't want to quit what I want to do but..." He cut himself off and sighed. "It's weird."
Yoongi smiled, smiled, a little. "You're weird." He paused, taking a moment to think. "I think... I think you just gotta try it out. Because you could end up loving it. That's from my own experiences, but I think it applies to you, too."
Hoseok was too tired to deal with this. Yoongi smiling, giving more advice... he sounded like some high school girl fawning over a jock or whatever. So, he groaned and lead his head down on the table, his arms lazily thrown across the small area.
He heard a chuckle from Yoongi, which made Hoseok smiled just slightly. Seeing Yoongi happy was nice enough to distract him from other stressful things.
Suddenly, though, Hoseok felt a weight on one of his hands. It was kind of warm but also kind of cold and...
...Was that Yoongi's hand? Obviously he wouldn't be able to tell, but no one else was sitting across from him, so it had to be Yoongi. Hoseok didn't know how to react to his conclusion. It was just a simple gesture of comfort, but to Hoseok it really did mean a lot. He's not used to being so stressed so knowing a friend is comforting him makes him feel better.
He brought his head up, glancing at the hand that was on top of his, which was indeed Yoongi's before looking at Yoongi himself. Yoongi pursed his lips and looked down at his phone, looking just a tad embarrassed. It made Hoseok laugh, making Yoongi look back up to him. Yoongi stared at him for only a second before swiftly retracting his hand to his lap.
Hoseok fully sat up after that, taking a breath. "Thanks, Yoongi."
"Uh," Yoongi croaked out, "what? Oh. You're welcome..." Yoongi sniffed and scrunched his face up after, which Hoseok had to admit was pretty darn cute.
"I... I really appreciate you like, listening and talking to me even though my problem is really silly. I... you're a really, really good friend, Yoongi. So, yeah, thank you." Hoseok scratched the back of his neck, feeling himself getting flustered from all of this. He didn't know why, but he knew it's happened before, so he wasn't going to dwell on it.
Yoongi was also clearly flustered from it, and his throat. "Yeah, yeah. And your problem isn't silly, Hobi. A problem is a problem. And Hoseok?"
"Yeah?"
"You're... you're my best friend. I really care about you."
Hoseok felt touched. Yoongi really saw him as his best friend? And cared for him? Either Yoongi has some pretty shitty friends, or... Whatever it was, Hoseok could easily admit he felt emotional over the statement, though he'd blame it on the lack of sleep.
Before his brain could respond to that like a normal human being, a new wave of tired washed over him, causing Hoseok to groan out, "I'm so tired, ugh." He pressed his hands to his face, sighing.
"Hobi, maybe you should go home and sleep. You don't have to be me and sleep here," Yoongi said with amusement in his voice.
"Yeah, I should. Otherwise I will pass out here, and I don't want that. Good thing I don't have work today," Hoseok added as he brought his hands down.
Yoongi blinked but nodded. "Move along then, I'll survive without you. Get some sleep."
Hoseok laughed loudly but stood up anyway. "Alright, Yoongi. You have a good day."
"You, too, Hobi."
Hoseok laughed once more and then made his way out the door and to home. He definitely needed more sleep.
