Hoseok was calmly waiting at the table for two, bopping his head along to one of the songs Yoongi had given him a while back. However, he wasn't really paying attention to the song at all. No, his focus was more on Yoongi, the man (the myth, the legend) himself. The guy seemed hella happy last time they had been here, and Hoseok was just trying to figure out why. Yoongi insisted that it was secret, but he seriously did not know what could make the man so happy. Was he going to slip into a coma and get some decent sleep? Was Starbucks going to be free forever from now on? Hoseok just didn't know.
But, he had an idea.
Yoongi came in then, and Hoseok put his earbuds away and greeted him. "Hello, Yoongles! How's your day? Still happy? I hope so."
Yoongi chuckled and scratched the back of his neck. "Hi, Hobi. Yeah, still happy, though still tired. What about you? You said you were stressed last time, how's your, uh, job, working out for you?"
Hoseok blinked. He definitely wasn't as stressed as before. He was surprised Yoongi kept track. "My job situation is still up in the air. But enough of that, I'm dying to know what got you so happy, so I'm going to guess until you say yes. Okay? Okay. Was it a puppy?"
Yoongi opened his mouth to object. He then closed it, then said, "No, it wasn't a puppy."
Hoseok hummed in thought. "Family?"
"No," Yoongi said, shaking his head. He had a very slightly amused twinkle in his eye.
"Tsk. Alrighty then... a song?"
Yoongi looked like he hesitated, or maybe Hoseok was just stupid. "No."
"Job?"
Now that earned something Hoseok could spot easily. It was an instant sort of smile, a bit of a blush, just the smallest head tilt. But it was gone before he could comment on it.
"No," Yoongi repeated with a straight face.
"Hmm... birthday? Hey, when is your birthday?" Hoseok doesn't ever recall them talking about birthdays before. It was already halfway through the year, so he might have to wait a while to wish Yoongi a happy birthday.
"No. And my birthday is March ninth. When's your birthday, Hobi?"
Ah, March? So he did miss it. "February eighteenth," he answered without thinking. He smiled, not exactly sure why, but Hoseok won't turn down any smile he can get. He felt... happy.
"Ah. Well, hopefully I can get you a birthday present next year. What do you want?" Yoongi asked plainly, as if it wasn't as complicated as it really, truly was.
It surprised Hoseok. "Wait, what? A birthday present?" His mouth was hanging open just slightly at the notion. He's used to not getting many, or any, birthday presents, and definitely not used to people asking what he wanted.
"Yes, Hobi. A birthday present. Y'know, a gift you--"
"I know what a birthday present it, Yoongi. I was just surprised, that's all. But as for what I want... damn, I'm not really sure." Hoseok let out a huff and pursed his lips.
"Don't think so hard, but if you ever think of anything, you can tell me," Yoongi reassured.
"No, no, I thought of something. I want earbuds. Maybe wireless ones? Though those might be expensive so don't go spending your money on those. I just go through earbuds quickly, for reasons, and I think wireless ones would work better." Dancing with earbuds in and accidentally ripping the cord has happened more often that he would like to remember.
"Oh? Okay. Wireless earbuds it is. It shall be delivered to you in..." Yoongi brought up his hand counted silently while mouthing numbers, or possible months. Hoseok couldn't tell the difference. "Seven months, I think. So you'll have to wait. Sorry."
