when you make impulsive decisions

Hoseok regretted everything in life. He had a good run. Made some friends, got a job, got an apartment, made his parents proud, all of that.

But he ended his life when he decided to dye his hair. He dyes it every six months or so to a pretty natural color, but for some God-forsaken reason, he dyed it a little bit more bright than he wanted to.

Bright orange.

Bright freaking orange. How did he mess it up so badly? He hated it so much, but he didn't have much time to dye it anytime soon, so the best he could do was slip on an extremely large beanie and hope no one noticed.

But of course people would notice, but if he had his hair covered for long enough he could easily dye it back in the next few days. He'll just have to go incognito for a while. Totally doable with bright orange hair. Yep.

Hoseok, however, had to get his coffee to function properly for the grueling day ahead, and he was sure Yoongi would notice the hat. He just hoped he wouldn't ask why he was wearing a hat that big in May.

Right when he sat down he was practically interrogated by Yoongi, who looked more tired than usual. "Hoseok. Why do you have a hat on. In the middle of May. I didn't even know you owned a hat that bad."

"Hey! I actually own tons of hats!" Small lie. "And I like beanies. They're cool." Plain lie. "Tons of people wear oversized beanies and they are quite fashionable." Big lie. Hoseok low key hated big beanies, but it must be done.

"You're ruining our friendship with this hat."

"Tell ya what, Yoongi. I'm wearing this for about a week for, uh, reasons, so you can put up with it. Then we can both forget about it until the end of our days."

"So you don't like the fact you're wearing a giant beanie, that honestly, looks horrible on you."

Hoseok put a hand over his heart. "I'm hurt. And no, I do not entirely like the fact I'm wearing a giant beanie."

"Then take it off."

"What? No. No no no." Hoseok was horrified by the thought. Yoongi couldn't know. No one could know. Hoseok wondered why exactly Yoongi couldn't know when he is going to have to take it off for work, but he pushed the thought away.

"Do it or I'll take it off for you."

"I can outrun you."

Yoongi narrowed his eyes. "Let me take it off or do it yourself. Otherwise I will never ever bring Holly here again."

Hoseok sighed. It was hard to go against such an offer. Honestly, Hoseok knew it was a pretty obvious choice. But he had to think on it. What could the outcomes be with choice a? Choice b? Or maybe there was another choice--

Yoongi reached over the small table and ripped Hoseok's beanie off. He quickly let the beanie fall out of his hand at seeing Hoseok's new hair.

"Hobi, oh--"

"Don't. I'm too ashamed." Hoseok flung his head back and laid a his hand gently over his forehead. If he's gonna face the world like that, might as well add some dramatic flair to it.

"Hoseok."

"No! Do not look at me. I am a horrid creature." Acting class really payed off.

"Hoseok..."

"No more!"

"Hobi shut up it looks fine. It's better than your last color."

"I-- wait, what?" Hoseok immediately dropped his act and stared and Yoongi with much confusion.

"I said you look fine. Do you not like it? Not everyone can pull off orange hair." (looking at you sehun. i'm kidding don't kill me)

"...I honestly wasn't expecting that reaction. And, uh, no, I don't really like it."

Yoongi rolled his eyes. "You should know it takes a few weeks or even months to get used to a hair color, right? I'm sure you'll like it in a few days. Keep it and see what happens."

"How do you know so much about hair color?" Yoongi didn't seem like the type of person to dye his hair a whole lot. He just seemed too lazy. Then again, he could get it professionally done with all that money.

"Hm? Oh, I used to dye my hair a lot. Like, once every two months sometimes. But since I had to bleach it a lot, it caused some damaged so I let it rest. I haven't touched the color in a year now but I'm not taking my chances."

Hoseok made a little 'o' with his mouth. "Wow. That's cool."

Yoongi scratched his head, seemingly embarrassed. "Sure. But I do like your color. It suits you."

Hoseok smiled. "Thanks, Yoongi. I knew you loved me."

"Yeah, no. Sorry bud."

Hoseok shook his head. "Whatever. Someday you will. Everyone eventually loves me."

"Good luck getting Taehyung to love you. He was fuming by the time you left. What you did, though, was amazing. I've never gotten to see him so pissed off in years. How'd you even come up with names that quickly?"

Ugh, Taehyung. "I practice. You never know when you'll need to recite names."

"You're weird."

"We already established this, Yoongi."

"We did? When?" Yoongi looked genuinely confused.

Hoseok sighed and explained the phone call a few nights ago.

"Which," Hoseok started, "brings up another thing. What were you working on then?"

Yoongi's eyes widened for a moment. "Personal stuff. Don't worry about it. Also, uh, you need to leave? Right? It's 8:30."

Hoseok glanced at the clock. "Shit."

"Run along, sunshine. Go do whatever you do."

Hoseok smiled a little even though he was low key freaking out about the time. "Uh, yeah. I'll see you later, then. Yeah, uh, bye." Hobi quickly grabbed his beanie and waved goodbye to Yoongi.

Hoseok might actually keep the orange. Might.
