Part twenty: Day Off In Tokyo

Tadashi Hotel

"We're gonna have a what?" Kara asked her sister, not really believing what she just said. Barbara giggled, adjusting her glasses. She fixed her purple hoodie and tucked her hands in her pockets.

"A day off, Kara. Won't that be fun?" She asked with a big grin, glad that she can finally take some time off. Kara didn't appreciate that.

"I'm gonna stay here in the hotel. I still need to.....figure some things out." She said, looking away from her sister.

"Oh, come on! It's gonna be fun, Kara. Don't you love Tokyo?" Her sister asked, giving her a pouty face.

"I'll just go later at the festival." She replied, walking towards her laptop sitting beside Barbara's. She sat down on the stool and opened it.

"Fine," Barbara said. "But I will drag you to the festival later if I have to."

"Okay," Kara sighed. Barbara wheeled towards the door and looked over her shoulder to look at her sister.

"Stay safe, okay? I love you, Kara." She said, opened the door.

"Love you, too, Babs." Kara replied, typing into her computer. Barbara sighed, wheeling herself out of the door. She locked it and went to Katie and Cassandra's hotel room since Stephanie was there, too.

"Babs? Where's Kara?" Dick asked her when he locked their hotel room. Barbara groaned, looking back at their room.

"She's not coming, but she will go to the festival with us later." She replied. Dick grabbed her handles and helped her get to the room she was suppised to go to.

"No offense, but your sister can be a buzz kill when she wants to." He said, looking down at the red head.

"Well, I'd be lying if I said that she's not. There's just something bothering her ever since I was...shot."

"Maybe she got busy. I mean, she just took the mantle of Batgirl."

"But, still. I can't help but feel that it's about me, or, for me."

Since Barbara will get mad at me for wasting my time for those silver mask dudes, I decided to do something else for the afternoon.

The sound of typing filled the room as Kara stared at her screen wearing her glasses. She bit her lip, not dreaming for the Wi-fi connection to break, but bad luck was on her side today. A notification popped up, saying that the connection was lost.

"Oh, great." She muttered, shouldering her laptop case and picked up her black and gold laptop. She stood up, heading towards the door with the key card on her hands.

The Wi-fi connection at the lobby is pretty fast, I better go there instead.

She walked past Bruce's and Katie's hotel rooms, almost walking past Tim's without any interruptions, but then again, luck wasn't on her side. A certain Wayne kid walked out of his room and saw the young Gordon walking by the hall. He smiled, walking behind her.

"I can hear your footsteps, Wayne." She said, rolling her eyes at the failed attempt. Damian sighed, speeding his pace to keep up with her.

"Aren't you going with your sister and the others to roam around the city?" He asked, confused that she's not having fun, especially in her second favorite place.

"I have better things to do." She said bluntly, walking inside the elevator and pressed the ground floor where the lobby is. Damian followed her and leaned against the wall across from her.

"Like?" He asked.

"Again, things that you should not know."

"I want to know."

"But, you shouldn't."

"Bu-"

"Do you know the difference between want and couldn't, Damian? I have some time to explain if you want to."

"Please," Damian smirked. "I'd love to."

Kara scoffed, rolling her eyes. She looked back at her screen and saw the Wi-fi slowly connecting. She smiled a bit, wanting her project to be over. The familiar ding reached her ears, the doors opening. She walked out, leaving the young Wayne to follow her.

"Why aren't you with them?" She asked, annoyed.

"I'm not the one to go around places," he said. "Not without you, that is."

The last part wasn't so clear to Kara, so she just shrugged and walked in the lobby. She sat on the coffee brown sofa, smiling when the Wi-fi finally connected.

"Do you want anything? Shakes?" Damian asked when he saw the dining area a few feet away from them.

"That'd be nice," she said. "Wait, you're doing this for free, right?"

"What kind of friend will I be if I let you pay?" He shrugged.

"Woah, friend?" Kara asked, looking up at him with wide eyes.

Now, that is something I wasn't expecting. Do I really treat him as a friend? Well, he has been a little nice to me for the past few weeks, but the arguments never stopped.

"Well, yeah," he said. "I am your friend, aren't I?"

Kara smiled, getting over her shock. She giggled as she looked back down at her screen where a 3D spine was displayed.

"Yeah," she said. "We are."

"Good," Damian grinned, walking towards the dining area. Kara shook her head and proceeded on finishing the little contraption she was making for her sister.

"This wouldn't work," she sighed. "She was paralyzed. She needs something that will heal her spine, not turn it into something like mine."

Growing up with a well-engineered spine was hard. I had to run so many tests on myself, making sure that I can live as long as a human can.
