Part twenty-seven: Gotham Is My Home

Everyone sat on the waiting area for their flight while Bruce went to buy some extra breakfast. Waking Kara up at two in the morning requires more than waffles and bacon. Speaking of Kara, she sat beaide Damian typing on her laptop with squinting eyes. She was too tired to work, but she was too up to sleep either. That left her to go with the first logical thing that popped in her mind.

"Honestly, Gordon. There's not a day when you're away with your laptop." Damian sighed, tucking his left hand in his pocket while the other held his phone. Kara paid him no attention and kept on working with the case, reading every file Bruce got last night.

"Gordon? Hello? Can you still hear me?" Damian asked, waving his hand on her face. She shoved it away gently, keeping her eyes on the screen.

"Yes, yes. You can heat the oven later." She said, yawning. Damian's eyebrows furrowed.

"Gordon, stop." He said, closing her laptop. Kara's eyes widened, looking at Damian with her eyes getting all red.

"Why'd you do that?" She asked tiredly. Damian put her laptop on its case and shoved it in his own backpack.

"You need some decent sleep," he said. "You just slept for one hour and investigating this case in the wrong time will only give you migraine."

Kara stared at him, her eyes slowly closing. She was in no condition to argue with the young Wayne, but he was right. She should sleep.

"We'll be stuck in an airplane for hours, Wayne. I can get sleep there." She yawned, rubbing her eyes. Damian put his hand on the back of her head and pushed her to his shoulder, letting her use him as a pillow.

"Come on," he said. "Get some sleep for now. The plane won't be here for thirty more minutes."

|I didn't bother to argue with him. I was slowly drifting off to sleep and he was there to serve as a pillow for me.|

"Smooth move, Demon Spawn." Jason smirked, folding his arms over his chest. Damian scoffed at him and stroked Kara's hair as she sleep.

"Shut up, Todd. I'm just doing what I can to help her." He said, resting his chin on top of her head. Tim and Dick chuckled, watching as their young brother slowly fall for the commissioner's daughter.

"You know, we have to help him have the guts to ask her out, right?" Dick whispered to Jason, resting his arms on the back of Jason's and Tim's chair. Jason nodded, smirking at Damian who was massaging Kara's scalp.

"The hard part is convincing him that we'll actually help." He replied.

Barbara walked towards Bruce who was holding a bunch of paper bags and grabbed a few of them.

"Getting the hang of walking again, Barbara?" He asked with a small smile. Barbara smiled back, walking towards the others with Bruce beside her.

"Yep, still can't believe it, though." She replied.

Damian noticed the paper bags and looked down at Kara's peaceful face as she sleep. He didn't want to wake her, but he knew Kara. She lives for food.

"Gordon," he whispered. "Wake up, food's here."

That made Kara up in no time. She opened her eyes, yawning a bit before rubbing her eyes. She looked up and saw Damian grabbing a paper bag handed to him by Barbara.

"Food!" She exclaimed, grabbing the paper bag from Damian. She sat up straight and shoved her hand in the bag.

"I smell lasagña," she said with a big smile. "I'll eat your lasagña, too, Wayne."

"Save some for me." He sighed, leaning against his seat. Kara cliked her tongue out at him and pulled out a tupperware with freshly baked lasagña in it. Her eyes twinkled, her mouth watering.

"I assume your favorite is lasagña, then." Damian said when he saw the familiar look on the Gordon's face. She giggled, eating her favorite dish.

"Mhm," she hummed. "You really do know me."

"Where's my lasagña?" He asked.

"Hmm? Oh, it's mine."

"Gordon,"

"Wayne,"

"I'm gonna go buy one then." He said, standing up. Kara grabbed his wrist and pulled him back down to his seat.

"Don't waste your money, Wayne." She sighed, handing him his lasagña along with a disposable fork.

"You just--"

"Just eat."
