Part fifty-six: Hold Me Close And Never Let Go
Gotham Five-Star Hotel
After the performance of Gotham Academy's pop band, songs were played for everyone to dance with. In the middle of the dance floor stood Damian, arms wrapped around Kara's waist protectively as he swayed her to the beat of the song. Her arms were around his neck, a smile on her face as she continue having a lovely talk with the young Wayne.
We were just kids when we fell in love
Not knowing what it was|The DJ knows how to pick songs, huh?|
"Are you sure you're alright?" Damian asked.
"For the sixtieth time this evening, yes. Can you stop worrying, Wayne?" She giggled.
He spun her around, not even caring if he was so close to knocking over the other students.
"You were tortured, Kara. And now you're acting as if nothing happened. How can I not worry?" He retorted.
"You can start by actually enjoying the night," she said. "With me."
What the--with me? Seriously? Are you out of your mind, Kara? Get a grip!
Damian smiled down at her, pulling her even closer to his body, if that was even possible.
"I am enjoying it," he said. "But it's not enough to make my mind off of the previous events that happened to you....to us."
The moment Kara heard that, she frowned. She can see through Damian's blank face. She can see the sadness, the pain in them. There was something in them that she was confused about. There was....love in them.
But what kind of love?
Sighing, her left hand reached up to his forehead and she gently swiped some of his hair to the left. And thankfully, Damian found it comforting.
"Damian, we've fought criminal master minds, freaky fedora people, masked zombie-like creatures, even aliens! There will always be danger hot on our tail, but we'll go through that together, right? We're a team, Damian. You and me. And I know that you always have my back, just as much as me to you." She smiled softly.
There was something in Kara's words that made Damian feel lighter, more comfortable. The worry started to die down, but there's still a few left. That's better than being full of worry.
"But I wasn't there for you when--"
"Oh, shush. I decided to go on my own, didn't I? Besides, you did your best to get there. It wasn't your fault, it was mine. I let curiosity take over and got tied up into even more trouble. If it weren't for you, I might not even get back here in one piece."
I don't get him sometimes. One day he acts all grumpy and stomp all over the place, then the next day, he'll be so concerned it might be the death of him.
"Can I tell you something?" Damian asked.
He studied her face, a few faded scars near her eyes. A longer one was on her temple, but only those who study her long enough would see it. Although there are so many flaws in her, he found her beautiful, astounding even. She's the only dove in a flock of pigeons, the only yellow balloon in the sea of blue.
"Of course, I'm not your best friend for nothing, right?" She joked.
Damian let out a quiet chortle as he guide her around the dance floor.
"I've been having a lot of thoughts in it lately," he started. "I'm not.....I......I--"
"Damian! I've been looking everywhere for you!" Tiffany exclaimed.
Way to ruin the moment.
Damian turned his gaze to look at the blonde. Kara did the same, a blank look on her face as she did so. She knew that something like this would happen. Never in er life did she experience something grand, something perfect that only one person can give her.
"Why are you looking for me, exactly?" He asked.
Tiffany quickly turned to Kara with a sharp glare and motioned for her to back off. But once Kara tried to do so, Damian held her waist tighter than before.
"Don't tell me you'd rather dance with a rat than a gorgeous girl." She smirked.
She flipped her curled hair, a voctorious smirk plastered on her face as she turn on her flirtatious side.
"Yeah, you're right. I'd rather dance with the gorgeous girl wrapped around my arms than the rat standing beside us." He retorted.
Okay, what's up with Damian? As far as I remember, he doesn't give compliments to me when we're in public.
"You're calling me a rat?" Tiffany gasped.
"Any problem? As far as I'm concered, you're the rat." Damian sassed.
The flip?
Tiffany fumed, stomping away from the couple. Kara chortled, looking up at Damian.
"That's eventful."
